5.0 out of 5 stars Beautiful Book with a Strong Message
"The Very Fairy Princess" is a charming and witty story about young Geraldine, who believes with her entire being that she is a fairy princess -- even when others do not. She believes because she feels it inside. Julie Andrews Edwards and Emma Walton Hamilton have written a brilliant story with a very strong message and creative language every little girl will remember...

3.0 out of 5 stars The Very Basic Princess
I was really hoping this would offer a different perspective on the princess theme, but it's pretty standard fare. A little girl who wants to wear pink, eat pink things, play with glitter and sequins and her "sparkle" shines best when she does ballet? *yawn*. Yes, there is actual mention of scabbed knees and frog rescue but it's within a pinkpinkPINKpinkPINK context...

"The Very Fairy Princess" is a charming and witty story about young Geraldine, who believes with her entire being that she is a fairy princess -- even when others do not. She believes because she feels it inside. Julie Andrews Edwards and Emma Walton Hamilton have written a brilliant story with a very strong message and creative language every little girl will remember and want to use. The book is beautifully illustrated.

I know after reading this book to my granddaughter, she was showing us her "sparkle." It also gave us the opportunity to encourage her to find the sparkle in her mommy, daddy, grandma and grandpa. It's challenging to find the right words to use when talking with young children about inner belief, courage and self-esteem. It is remarkable how just one special word, "sparkle" can convey so much to a young child. This book is a keeper with our princess! I highly recommend it for all little princesses 4-8 yrs of age.

5.0 out of 5 stars Let your SPARKLE out!, May 28, 2010
This review is from: The Very Fairy Princess (Hardcover)
Julie and Emma have done it again. This is a delightful book for real-life fairy princesses, the kind who get skinned knees and have dirt under their fingernails, while at the same time delighting in flights of fancy, pretty dresses, and gossamer wings.

The child I am still (at heart) loved the book -- the adult I am (on the outside at least) relished the urging to "let my SPARKLE out!"

It's a wonderful book to read with your own Very Fairy Princess -- and then see how many ways both of you can SPARKLE throughout your day.

This is definitely going on my list of "good books to give as gifts"! Thanks, Julie and Emma!

I thoroughly enjoyed this book by Julie Andrews and her daughter Emma and bought three copies: two as gifts for little girls who I know will adore it, being that they, too, think they are fairy princesses... and one for myself! The message underlying the story is a good one, and children (as well as the adults reading to them) can all come away from the reading with a warm feeling in their hearts!

4.0 out of 5 stars Good book for girls, August 9, 2010

A lot of hype over this book so I purchased it for my 3.5 yr old twins. They do like the book and the message is a good one but I don't love the book would not give it 5 stars but 4 instead. The writing could be a little more creative instead of repeating "that is the price you pay" twice which I don't find to be very well written statement. I do like this book but like the Ladybug Girl series better.

A cute story for all little girls and one to which all can relate--from falls and scratched up knees to being tired and feeling a need to rest.

Yes, there is actual mention of scabbed knees and frog rescue but it's within a pinkpinkPINKpinkPINK context. Boo. How about really turning the universe upside-down and making a princess like BLUE? Heaven forbid!

So anyways... if you want yet another pretty pink ballerina princess book, this is one of those. If you're looking for something different, skip it!

4.0 out of 5 stars Delightful Picture Book With A Strong Message, August 23, 2011
This review is from: The Very Fairy Princess (Hardcover)
What I liked about the book: The illustrations are colorful and will appeal to young readers. I like that the story provides a message about what it means to be a good sport and team member without coming on too strong. Gerry is a good role model for young girls. She's not perfect, but she tries hard. It will be easy for readers to identify with her. Young girls who like princesses, fairies and the color pink will enjoy this book.

What I didn't like about this book: I liked it all.

Recommended for Kindergarten and above.

This is a delightful book for girls. I loved it and I am a grown woman. This has such a great message in it and so beautifully told and illustrated. A book every little girl should have, to help her realise she can be whatever she wants to be.

I bought this book for my 4 year old niece and she loves it. I loved the message. Beautiful book written by one of my favorite childhood actresses, Julie Andrews and her daughter Emma.

5.0 out of 5 stars Sweet and Wonderful, May 17, 2010
This review is from: The Very Fairy Princess (Hardcover)
I read this book in a toy store and fell in love with it. It is very sweet for little princesses and has the wonderful things I want in a book for my little girl. I am going to search for a price lower than $16.99, but I plan to get this book for our library.
