5.0 out of 5 stars Gimme da' ting!
Of the 80's El Rayo X recordings this is probably my favorite, it rocks steady... great Band, great covers, great FUN. My favorite songs are...well, all of them. The production is superb without being overdone. All of El Rayo-X's recording have excellent quality song selection, musicianship and production. This was above all a band that knew how to have fun, and I don't...

The production is superb without being overdone. All of El Rayo-X's recording have excellent quality song selection, musicianship and production. It is always one of my first choices for background at a party, or if I want to dance around the house with my children...

What many people don't know is that Lindley continues to make great music on his independent label (less polished, but masterful arrangements for various guitars and percussions). Check out his website, davidlindley.com. See him live with Wally Ingram (drummer extraordinaire). Find muscles in your face you forgot existed!

5.0 out of 5 stars Terrific on every level!, March 14, 2002

The other reviewers are not exaggerating! This is a great record. The guitar solo on "Do you wanna dance" is worth the price of the CD. David Lindley takes his music seriously, but he doesn't take himself seriously. The result is a recording with excellent musicianship, great vocals, superb production values and an infectious vibe. This is a great party record, guaranteed to get people dancing. My two sons, 6 and 9, love this record.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fun, and never tiring., September 10, 1999

If you need an album that is to be played while driving, this is it. If you have kids, this works for them as well. Is it raining outside? Forget about it! David Lindley and El Rayo-X are marvelous on this disc. The production is superb as is the sound quality. (I picked this up on a friends word several years ago and it is still on my hit list). A very talented guy who can play anything. You will not be sorry.

5.0 out of 5 stars David & the boys doing their thing, at their very best!!!!!, September 10, 1998

this Linda Rhondstadt produced cd is one of the most underated and unappreciated records in the history of recorded sound. IF you love real acoustic-funk-blues-world-juju-raga-rasta-soul and tiki touch- like music. Listen to "Papa Was a Rolling Stone or" Do You Wanna Dance" to understand the pure genius of this man and his music. Not to mention Warren Zevon's weird "Werewolf of London".Like Ry Cooder on acid ! LINDLEY IS A GENUINE AMERICAN MUSICAL TREASURE!! it dont get better then this!!!

This is a very fun CD. It's one that I keep coming back to again and again. It's rare to find such musical talent combined with such a playful, soulful attitude. And the guitar sounds are amazing.

This album is great on so many levels. It's fun to listen to yet not "pop-schlock". If you're a musician, it's fun yet challenging to play. The arrangements are mondo cool and the recording/production is first rate. (I bet most people don't think of ears when they think of Linda Ronstat ;-). I've bought this for many friends and family and it has become among the top favorites (if not THE favorite) of all of them.

David was the lead guitarist for Jackson Browne Band for years. If you ever were drawn into the speakers by the lead guitar on such songs as "Running On Empty", then you already know David. I've known him for five years as we share a common hobby unrelated to music. I have seen him perform in the back room at a little guitar store called McCabe's in LA. He is a Master with any form of stringed insturment. He has a sense of humor that is as gifted as his musical talent.

Like many cd's, there are no tracks to bump ahead of in this masterpiece;especially Bobby Freeman's "Do you wanna dance" Check out the 2nd bridge w/ the "Ventures" twist in it. Awesome! JK

4.0 out of 5 stars Classic Lindley, September 12, 2009
This review is from: Very Greasy (Audio CD)
Although not quite as good as El Rayo X from 1981, this is still a
great CD. It is David Lindley at his classic best; catchy songs with wonderful
instrumentation. Dave's later work goes more full bore into world music with
exotic instruments of which he is a master, but for me these first 2 albums
(El Rayo X and Very Greasy) are still my favorites.
