1.0 out of 5 stars Note To Author,,,,,,,,,, November 16, 2011

If you are going to offer us a free kindle book, do so. Please do not give us a portion of a book and then ask us to buy the ending under a different title. Makes us not want to look at any of the other books you offer!

For some reason the file doesn't open in the correct place, it opens at the bonus chapter for the new book. You actually have to hit previous page a few times to get to the beginning of the story. It is there though, and is a complete story. Hope this helps!

1.0 out of 5 stars Very Short, Short Story November 18, 2011
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
This story was disjointed and incomplete. The main story wasn't that interesting, then in the middle it jumps to another character with no connection to the original plot.

UPDATE! UPDATE! UPDATE! Here's PROOF as to why reading reviews is helpful, and my thanks goes out to Berry327 for the tip on how to get to the actual story. Read his/her review so you can comment on this story and not the single chapter of "The Nine Lives of Christmas" on which the download opens.

So now my review of "A Very Holly Christmas: An Exclusive Short Story": The short story "A Very Holly Christmas" is just that, a VERY short story which, although complete, leaves a lot to be desired. This is a follow up to another book about "Holly" (which is the name of a town and not a person) and describes a little slice of time and life in Holly. The story seems to feature a town full of quirky and semi- or fully-dysfunctional families, which some readers may find humorous or cute, but doesn't do much for me. Although well written, I imagine that if you had read the prior book, your knowledge of who, why, what, where and when would have helped with the characters in this book--but all in all, it was cohesive, had a clear beginning, middle and end and as such is a complete short story. I'm not sure if this compels me to seek out and read the first book, perhaps so but... I might be more interested in the "Nine Lives of Christmas" story featuring Ambrose the cat.

-------
Original Rewiew:
I'm not sure what's going on here but I pre-ordered the book "A Very Holly Christmas", which was supposed to be a full short story, but what I got was one chapter of the book "The Nine Lives of Christmas". Hopefully this can be sorted out so I can read the book I pre-ordered.
As for Ambrose the cat in the chapter I read?...It seemed to be a well written story with a plot I might be interested in so perhaps you should look into it under its correct heading.

2.0 out of 5 stars Mostly advertisement December 6, 2011
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
This download contains a short-short story that refers back to characters and events of a previous book. Perhaps if I had read that book, the story wouldn't have been so confusing, and its lack of character development wouldn't have been so obvious. It wasn't interesting enough to make me want to read the previous book. The rest of the download was a sample chapter for another book. I was so annoyed by the way this free book was used as two ads in disguise that it made me not interested in even reading the sample.

1.0 out of 5 stars What? December 2, 2011
By Heather

Ambrose the cat needs a new home and he must make it last. He has used up 8 of his nine lives and this last life needs to be the one where he doesn't do anything that caused him to lose a life previously.

The story starts off relatively good and then it falls flat and ends. I am still wondering why the author chose to end her story as she did, it just ended, I am left perplexed.

2.0 out of 5 stars Not even a short story... a couple of paragraphs December 5, 2011
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I barely settled in and this was over. I couldn't even say it was a story, more like the intro to a book. From the brief intro, I would say the characters would be likeable, but certainly underdeveloped. The "story" was over at 32%, with a preview to a different book to buy. Not impressed with this marketing style.

I got this short story for free on Amazon through a promotion that is currently running.

Sometimes with short stories you pick up one and while reading it you have a feeling like you are missing something. That was the case with this read. While the story was cute and definitely Christmas theme I was so distracted by the lost feeling that it was difficult for me to get through the 19 pages. On Strike for Christmas, the novel that short story follows, is 394 pages long and that explains a lot.
While I think this is a lovely follow up to the novel it just doesn't do well alone and didn’t strike my curiosity towards the novel itself.
