An excellent primer for the beginning trader and good insights for more experienced traders, November 4, 2009
This review is from: The Very Latest E-Mini Trading: Using Market Anticipation to Trade Electronic Futures (Paperback)
An excellent primer for the beginning trader and good insights for more experienced traders. What stands out about this book is that Mr. Gutmann is not a professional trader, but got into trading like most of his readers probably got into trading, by thinking this looks like an easy way to make money (ha, ha). However, unlike 90% of beginning traders, Mr. Gutmann has become consistently profitable. Reading about his journey to profitability is a must for new traders. It takes hard work and he has some good advice.
The middle of the book is a detailed explanation of his trading plan. There are many concepts explained. New traders should not get overwhelmed with all the set-ups but initially focus on pull back or retracement strategies and stick to one market. I'm impressed that Mr. Gutmann can trade so many set-ups.
The set-ups are straight forward (most are available in TradeStation and the author will send you the indicators and TradeStation workspaces for a modest fee) and you won't find much more information from on-line trading schools or seminars. More experienced traders will appreciate the discussion on the expected values of one, two and three tier trades.
I enjoyed the book and can't wait to hear more from Mr. Gutmann as his trading evolves.

The Very Latest E-Mini Trading, November 6, 2009
This review is from: The Very Latest E-Mini Trading: Using Market Anticipation to Trade Electronic Futures (Paperback)
It has been said that the most difficult of all human endeavors are 1. Musical composition 2. Hitting a curve ball and 3. Daytrading S&P Futures. The top tier of each group are millionaires. The first two cannot be taught. The jury is still out on the third. Mr. Gutmann is giving lessons on #3 and deserves a widespread audience. The contents have too much good information for a "once read" by mere mortals. It serves best as a future reference for aspiring daytraders who are up against many of the brightest minds on the planet. The author points out more than once that his book is not The Holy Grail of trading. If it were, who would sell it? However the good suggestions seem endless and are worth deliberate study. About 90% of my investment books are in the attic. This one will remain close by. John Townsend, Memphis, Tn.

Useful Suggestions for Day Trading the minis, December 30, 2009
This review is from: The Very Latest E-Mini Trading: Using Market Anticipation to Trade Electronic Futures (Paperback)
This inexpensive book has many nuggets of wisdom. There are many approaches to day-trading the mini futures, and this book touches on several, including opening range breakouts, trend days vs non-trending days, time-of-day patterns, pivot point trades, MACD divergence trades, and inter-market divergence trades. There is a helpful discussion of "anticipating" trades rather than chasing trades, but of course there is a trade-off. If you want confirmation, then your entry point is further away from the required stops.
If someone is looking for a fool-proof system for $ 29.95 look elsewhere. If you're looking for elaborate color graphics, also look elsewhere.
Having spent thousands of dollars on books, courses and software over the years, I was willing to invest $ 29.95 to see whether one or more of his approaches made sense to me. If so, I was prepared to invest $ 199 that the author charges for his software. Although I am pretty adept at creating indicators in EasyLanguage for Tradestation, I found the author's TradeStation code well worth it, especially the indicator code for "Point of Control" and "Value Area's for Highs and Lows."
