An excellent primer for the beginning trader and good insights for more experienced traders. What stands out about this book is that Mr. Gutmann is not a professional trader, but got into trading like most of his readers probably got into trading, by thinking this looks like an easy way to make money (ha, ha). However, unlike 90% of beginning traders, Mr. Gutmann has...

I found this book somewhat interesting as the author had a new method of trading I have not used. However, most of the particulars about the proprietary indicators (CT's) or methods he describes, and TradeStation setups, are obfuscated to lead you to purchase his program for several hundred dollars!!!! Gutmann has become consistently profitable. Reading about his journey to profitability is a must for new traders. It takes hard work and he has some good advice.

The middle of the book is a detailed explanation of his trading plan. There are many concepts explained. New traders should not get overwhelmed with all the set-ups but initially focus on pull back or retracement strategies and stick to one market. I'm impressed that Mr. Gutmann can trade so many set-ups.

The set-ups are straight forward (most are available in TradeStation and the author will send you the indicators and TradeStation workspaces for a modest fee) and you won't find much more information from on-line trading schools or seminars. More experienced traders will appreciate the discussion on the expected values of one, two and three tier trades.

I enjoyed the book and can't wait to hear more from Mr. Gutmann as his trading evolves.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Very Latest E-Mini Trading, November 6, 2009

This review is from: The Very Latest E-Mini Trading: Using Market Anticipation to Trade Electronic Futures (Paperback)
It has been said that the most difficult of all human endeavors are 1. Musical composition 2. Hitting a curve ball and 3. Daytrading S&P Futures. The top tier of each group are millionaires. The first two cannot be taught. The jury is still out on the third. Mr. Gutmann is giving lessons on #3 and deserves a widespread audience. The contents have too much good information for a "once read" by mere mortals. It serves best as a future reference for aspiring daytraders who are up against many of the brightest minds on the planet. The author points out more than once that his book is not The Holy Grail of trading. If it were, who would sell it? However the good suggestions seem endless and are worth deliberate study. About 90% of my investment books are in the attic. This one will remain close by. John Townsend, Memphis, Tn.

This inexpensive book has many nuggets of wisdom. There are many approaches to day-trading the mini futures, and this book touches on several, including opening range breakouts, trend days vs non-trending days, time-of-day patterns, pivot point trades, MACD divergence trades, and inter-market divergence trades. There is a helpful discussion of "anticipating" trades rather than chasing trades, but of course there is a trade-off. If you want confirmation, then your entry point is further away from the required stops.

If someone is looking for a fool-proof system for $ 29.95 look elsewhere. If you're looking for elaborate color graphics, also look elsewhere.

Having spent thousands of dollars on books, courses and software over the years, I was willing to invest $ 29.95 to see whether one or more of his approaches made sense to me. If so, I was prepared to invest $ 199 that the author charges for his software. Although I am pretty adept at creating indicators in EasyLanguage for Tradestation, I found the author's TradeStation code well worth it, especially the indicator code for "Point of Control" and "Value Area's for Highs and Lows."

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Book, January 31, 2010

This book helped me with understanding the main ingredients on how to analyze a trade from time of day to market profile and most of all the MACD. The MACD has been around for a long time but his analysis of it was very helpful.

I found this book somewhat interesting as the author had a new method of trading I have not used. However, most of the particulars about the proprietary indicators (CT's) or methods he describes, and TradeStation setups, are obfuscated to lead you to purchase his program for several hundred dollars!!!! The charts are too small and blurry to determine the detail of what the author is explaining, for example "The CTs are shown as a dotted line that overlays a 1-minute ES price chart." Try finding a dotted line on ANY graph pictured in this book. If more details were given you could recreate his process quite easily in TradeStation EasyLanguage. Hence the need for obfuscation. Don't waste your time with this book. It's an expensive advertisement.

5.0 out of 5 stars Genuine help from a full time trader, December 30, 2009

Trading books and trading software is frequently sold at top dollar figures. This was not. It gives the impression of a desire to impart what works rather than to dazzle with too much information and detail. I found it refreshing to find someone who was interested more in sharing his ideas than trying to enrich himself and create a cash machine from book and software sales. Mr. Gutmann comes across as one who is using his writing to organize what he has found to work. I am no novice at trading and thus found that the information contained is a realistic combination of factors that frame the movement of the emini market. He has combined in easy to grasp format a few key factors that seems to distill much research and trial and error. Additionally he is willing to correspond by email as one undertakes to put into practice what he teaches in the book. He sells ready to use software for $199 which though not essential is well thought out and easy to use. There are plenty of books out there that sell for five times the cost of this book and wind up mostly overwhelming the reader.

5.0 out of 5 stars favorite day trading book, February 27, 2011
This review is from: The Very Latest E-Mini Trading: Using Market Anticipation to Trade Electronic Futures (Paperback)
Michael Gutmann is a very gifted writer and instructor. His book is loaded with useful and pratical day trading information. His detail information on the cumulative tick indicator is worth the price of the book alone. In all honesty, this is the best day trading book I have read to date.

4.0 out of 5 stars Pretty Good Book On Trading, January 29, 2010
This review is from: The Very Latest E-Mini Trading: Using Market Anticipation to Trade Electronic Futures (Paperback)
Mr. Gutman offers in this book some pretty good information on trading. His analogy and sample charts explaining basic
trading information is very good. I think that this book offers a solid foundation for those looking to start trading the eminis.

While first I was very excited to get a 200 pages trading system for a cheap price on Amazon and thought there should be everything in you possible can say about a trading system, I have to admit that this book did not get me anywhere. The author claims to be an Intel engineer who also has done presentations, but he really is not able to present a didactic book. The book is presented in a rather unlogical way and I think anybody will have a hard time to get something out of this book. While I have no way to know if the author is profitable, I seriously doubt if anybody will be with this book, because the information in it is just not good enough. I am wondering what the intentions of the author are because he does not deliver a system you can use immediately. After reading this book I would not recommend it to anybody.
