Great Blend of Original & Traditional,
By Ms. Quarter (Milwaukee, WI United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Very Merry Christmas (Audio CD)
A big fan of Dave Barnes, I'm pleasantly surprised to see he released a Christmas album. Color me even more surprised when I heard a familiar voice accompanying the second track and found out it is none other than Lady Antebellum's Hillary Scott. Consider me late to the party.
The album offers just the right amount of traditional songs like "I'll Be Home for Christmas," and "All I Want for Christmas is You," while still providing a healthy dose of new Christmas favorites like the album's namesake "Very Merry Christmas," and my personal favorites "I Pray on Christmas" and "Family Tree." Add this one to your Christmas music collection for a more diverse sampling of yuletide cheer. Barnes does it up right with the perfect blend of soul, pop, and that little bit of jazzy pep that has you subconsciously dancing while you frost your endless batch of Christmas sugar cookies.

Best Christmas CD of 2010!!!,
By
This review is from: Very Merry Christmas (Audio CD)
After a while, all Christmas music starts to sound the same, which is why I'm so happy to have discovered Dave Barnes' CD, Very Merry Christmas. It's stylish, romantic, thoughtful, and most importantly, fun! I thought other CDs were my favorite Christmas CDs of 2010, until I listened to Very Merry Christmas, which is now on permanent rotation for every holiday season. It may have just cracked my personal top 10 ALL time Christmas CDs!
When I first heard this CD, I felt his lyrics to have real warmth to them and they felt drenched in personal relationships, whether it is with family, God or that special someone. I felt something special. This CD is perfect for a quiet evening cuddling with your beloved by the fire, as background music for that classy Christmas party, or even just as a break from the craziness of the of the holiday season. 1. Very Merry Christmas: The CD's title track, Talks about a couple visiting with a house full of family for the holidays. Very good start to the CD. Fun and catchy beat 2. Christmas Tonight (With Hillary Scott): This song right here is the best on this CD. The BEST Christmas song of the YEAR! I believe this will be copied for years to come. Can you say instant classic?! If you can't afford the CD, then buy this song! 3. All I Want For Christmas Is You: Good version of Mariah's classic! 4. Meet Me At The Mistletoe: This is probably the second best song on this CD. LOVE IT! 5. I'll Be Home for Christmas: Not much you can do with this Bing Crosby classic, but Dave nailed it. 6. I Pray On Christmas: This version is BETTER then the Harry Connick Original! 7. Family Tree: Good tune! Gets better and better the more you hear it. 8. Holiday Made For Two: This is quickly becoming a favorite of mine. Very Good 9. The Christmas Song: Good version of the Mel Torme classic 10. Mary And Joseph: A good end to the CD, Very Good

Great original Christmas songs,
By TeacherSu "book lover" (Aurora, IL USA) - See all my reviews

I received this CD a year ago from my daughter for a birthday present right before seeing him in perform alongside Drew Holcomb and the Neighbors in a Christmas concert. I was sad when the Christmas season passed since I had to put it away for a while. So glad Christmas is coming again and I can play my Dave Barnes Christmas music again. While Dave has remade a couple of classics on the CD, the best parts are his original songs. The sentiments they express are great (he has always been a good lyricist.) What I especially like is the CD itself has enough variety of styles on it that you don't get tired of listening to it. There are sentimental songs, fun songs, gospel songs, you name it. If you ever have an opportunity to see him live, go. He is lots of fun and sounds great in a live setting.
