5.0 out of 5 stars Timless Christmas Music for Kids and Adults! November 5, 2012
Format:MP3 Music
Do you remember your parents or grandparents playing those vinyl records? Then you probably remember the Golden Records for children, containing classic stories and songs for young ones and old ones young at heart.

Golden Records have been making a comeback this year by releasing old and new records onto CDs and MP3 for a whole new generation of fans to enjoy. They were nice enough to let me listen to A Very Merry Golden Records Christmas, which is part of their Celebrity Series, free of charge in exchange for an honest review.

With Christmas just only a few weeks ago, there is nothing better to get your family in the holiday spirits than listening to wonderful Christmas music. A Very Merry Golden Records Christmas brings back twenty timeless classics, blending in new celebrity voices with the original music and sound effects. Some of the voice talents are Ed Asner, Didi Conn, Cheryl Hines, Wallace Shawn and Dermot Mulroney.

5.0 out of 5 stars Golden Records is Back With a Great Holiday Album! November 16, 2012
Format:Audio CD
I remember the Little Golden Records albums when I was a kid. I loved those. They had songs and stories that everyone in the family could enjoy.

Now they are back and brand new. Featuring today's celebrities and all your holiday favorites, A Very Merry Golden Records Christmas is sure to delight everyone in your family.

Starring Wallace Shawn, Missi Pyle, John O'Hurley, Malin Akerman, Dermot Mulroney and many more, A Very Merry Golden Records Christmas is just in time for the holidays & packed with 20 holiday favorites.

What I really like is the stories are not too long. My preschool age daughter can follow along and not get bored. She loves Frosty the Snowman, the story and the song! Introducing Golden Records to a new generation of listeners is such a great idea. I am so glad they are releasing more of this wholesome entertainment.

{I received this album free for review. All opinions are mine.}

5.0 out of 5 stars More pure classic family-style gold for the holidays November 19, 2012
Format:Audio CD
One of the nicest things about the holidays is that music is allowed to have the variety it had when I was growing up. You have rock, blues, jazz, easy listening, you name it, all playing together in the form of various artists enjoying their spin on either favorite holiday carols, well known songs or original tunes. Musically, during the holidays, when something is "retro," that means it's "cool," to paraphrase Wreck-It Ralph.

That's the glorious appeal of the new CD, A Very Merry Golden Records Christmas. The folks at Verse Music, with the input of Tony Shimkin, son of Golden Records founder Arthur Shimkin, crafted a collection that spans over two decades of the 20th century yet has its feet planted firmly in the 21st.

Like those great Columbia, RCA and Capitol holiday albums many of us collected at Goodyear, True Value Hardware, Grants and other retailers, A Very Merry Golden Records Christmas features celebrity performers, many of whom may startle you with their versatility. Vintage Golden tracks have been lovingly restored, their charm given a modern touch with such names as Cheryl Hines, John O'Hurley, Missy Pyle and even Dermot Mulroney (who sounds somewhat like Eddy Arnold). For the younger set, Didi Conn chirps songs that were once sung by the likes of Captain Kangaroo and Anne Lloyd.

Speaking of the Captain, his sidekick Mister Greenjeans (Lumpy Brannum) returns in one of several unchanged (yet enhanced) recordings, "Crackerjack Christmas," a tune I remember seeing him lipsync on the CBS show.

Four stories, three from Golden Books, are presented with fully orchestrated backgrounds by Hines, Busy Philipps and Ed Asner.
