5.0 out of 5 stars This Book Will Help Entry-Level Workers Find A Job, March 24, 2003
This book is designed for entry-level job seekers who can look for work at least 25 hours a week. Tells how to get a job by obtaining interviews, which is redefined as a conversation with a person who can hire you, whether or not they have a job open at the time of your discussion. Describes seven step to get a job, which are: 1) Know your skills. 2) Have a clear job objective. 3) Know where and how to look for openings. 4) Spend at least 25 hours a week looking. 5) Get two interviews a day. 6) Do well in interview. 7) Follow up on all contacts. The book is organized so you only have to read the parts that are relevant to you. Very helpful to people with learning disabilities.

2.0 out of 5 stars "Quick" Job Search? Really???, February 8, 2012

This review is from: Very Quick Job Search: Get a Better Job in Half the Time (Paperback)
I bought this book, and kept "sort of" using it to find work. And I finally realized why I never got very enthusiastic about using it.

It says "traditional" job search methods don't work. I agree with that a little. But if they don't, why do people keep using them? They must work for somebody.

But the main thing I don't like is that it tells you to basically search for jobs that don't even exist yet. It's pretty much "knock on a company's doors before they even know something will be open soon." He does explain how to do that, but those methods involve even more time than using "traditional" methods. So, how is that "quick"?

It's pretty well-known that most jobs are not actually advertised. Duh. So this is not news. The author also recommends doing temp work until you find something. I've been temping for a long time, and I can tell this book is way out of date (2004). Temp jobs are becoming just as hard to get as permanent jobs, because everybody is trying it now - and agencies are getting pickier now because of that. It's not "a quick buck" anymore.

This book is just "more of the same" - it's really no different than any other book out there. I kept hoping this book would help me regroup and re-energize my efforts. I think the only thing it will "re-energize" is my trash can.

3.0 out of 5 stars Bloated Book, January 15, 2011
This review is from: Very Quick Job Search: Get a Better Job in Half the Time (Paperback)
The author enjoys repeating himself, making for a thicker and more bloated book than necessary. Unfortunately, this detracts from the casual reading experience.

However, the book is nonetheless insightful and worth a scan at a bookstore.
