I love liquor-filled chocolates. I received these as a gift and found the gel-like liquor not to be very strong. It was almost as if the liquor had been cut with sweet syrup and all the alcohol cooked out. A young child wouldn't even get a buzz from these. The chocolate itself was OK -- better than Hershey's and Nestle but not as good as Godiva or Lindt.

I was very disappointed with the quality of the chocolate.
If you want the BEST, I've found that Ethel M.'s chocolate liquor barrels are incredibly good - but you WILL pay the price!

48 bottle box and every single bottle was empty. As you can see in my pictures, the foil wrappers each had a hole in the bottom. That yellow ooze is some type of glue to keep them in their fancy pointless plastic trays. Even the few without gaps at the bottom had NO filling, no ooze, no booze and no taste. Note the dry white chalky texture of the solid necks. "Best if used before October 17 2013.". I received this on October 1st 2013.

And look at what a mess it makes just to open 1 of them. It's really hard to get every little sliver of foil. Your fingers get slimy and filthy from the glooze on the bottom, making each sliver of dentally-threatening foil stick to the chocolate.

Now normally I would like to see the bright side to anything that doesn't meet my expectations, but this really lowered the bar.
Before this purchased, I had looked at the reviews thinking that it couldn't be as bad as many were saying. In fact it was highly rated for many of the reviews it was given. Looking back at those reviews, I really can't see what people liked about these "liquor filled" chocolates.

First thing I noticed about these chocolates is that they are noticeably smaller than other filled chocolates I have purchased in the past. Small enough that I wondered immediately if they could even have a liquor filling in them.
I immediately opened up the box, which probably was the best part of this product. If you want a neat window piece, this is great. 1 star for the neat packaging.

After going for my first chocolate, I noticed the chocolate was stuck to the plastic bottom.
Okay, I can understand that some of the product may have melted and fused with the packaging, but then every other chocolate was like this. The foil covering covers most of each chocolate, but many have the bottoms exposed allowing the chocolate or "filling" to leak out easily.

Lastly, the taste test is was really rang the death knell for this product. When I read "Liquor filled chocolates" I think of taking a bite and tasting the liquid alcohol.
This was no where even close. One bite and it just tasted a sugary, oozing gel that tasted nothing close to alcohol, something more like the gel filling in those eggs you get for Easter.

I had previously purchased some Anthon Berg liquor filled chocolates and when I bite into one of those, I could instantly taste the alcohol and flavor of the unique brand that filled it.

I bought a few boxes of these for gifts and opened one up because I couldn't resist. They're so damn good I ate half the box already. I'm buying a few more to hand out for christmas!

I was hoping for actual liquor filled chocolates, but instead ended up with these, which are the most atrocious, jelly filled, sticky, and simply impossible to open without creating a mess chocolates I have ever tasted. Altogether, in the whole box, the total amount of alcohol may be as high as 10 drops.

I meant to order Anthony Berg's chocolates and got this one by mistake...yikes, not a good outcome. The chocolate is poor and the gel-like liquor is worse...don't make the mistake that i made...

You know how the chocolate turns light brown when it gets old? That's how these were at the top. They were that lighter shade of brown as if they were old. That part just didn't taste right, but the liquor inside was good. These candies weren't fresh.
