Order each CD individually, please! This doesn't make economic sense. Don't go blindly down the path of Amazon. This price must have been concocted prior to the agent having his/her morning coffee! Only as long as this "Gold Box" deal lasts today is this particular deal even worth considering.

Do the math. It's cheaper to buy them individually,
and quite frankly, a lot of the material on these has already started to sound very very dated.

Remember, this was the year people were freaking out about the mythical Y2K "problem" and buying canned food and generators. Most of these songs are so awful that the crummy "Xmas Music Only" stations dont even play them.

I have three of the five, I got them at the DOLLAR STORE. Yes, the DOLLAR STORE last year and they weren't even "cut outs". I can't even find the CDs now, and I don't even care to look for them. The used CD place wont even take them in trade at a penny.

5 CDs for over $90?!?!?!?! What are they stupid? Unless this is a big typo, Amazon is trying to rip you off. Don't buy this.

I own the first CD and bought it when it came out. I don't remember what I paid for it but I know this price in gold box is just crazy. You can pick up any or all of these CD's just about everywhere this time of year.

I like the CD I have becuase it (at the time) put a new sound to Christmas Music. The one main reason I did buy the CD is Bob Seger is on there with his version of Little Drummer Boy. Bob Seger is my favorite singer and I just wanted the CD for one song.

I really like Madonna's music but when I hear her sing Santa Baby I just want to scream. She sounds like a really bad Betty Boop.

Listen to the samples of the songs and buy the CD's you like at the dollar store or Walmart..... for less money.

A Very Special Christmas Collection? For whom is this box set supposed to be very special?

The details are showing an original release date of November 18th, 2008, and that this set contains 5 CDs, but little else other than a few tracks and the list price. Yet the five CDs made up a series of compilation albums of Christmas music, and featured carols and songs sung in various styles by a variety of music superstars, such as Bruce Springsteen, Madonna, Bon Jovi, U2, Stevie Nicks, Whitney Houston, Sting, Tom Petty, Michael Bolton, Sheryl Crow, Enya, Steve Winwood, Run-D.M.C., Willie Nelson and many others.

But the original series was in support of Special Olympics, and raised somewhere between $55 million and $100 million for that group. The five-CD set seems to be made up of these, and the dates are of the original release by A&M Records:

#1. A Very Special Christmas - 1987
#2. A Very Special Christmas 2 - 1992
#3. A Very Special Christmas 3 - 1997
#4. A Very Special Christmas Live! - 1999
#5. A Very Special Christmas 5 - 2001

These are all good CDs, 4-stars or better, but I'm wondering if this set is still in support of Special Olympics, as there's no indication of that here. It's also disturbing in that most of the CDs in this set are available here at their regular prices, making this some kind of strange collection that's commanding a premium price. I have many of these CDs, and in truth bought some off-season with notched corners for very low prices.

OK, my subjective ratings:

* The individual CDs: all 5-stars, but 4-stars on the third one.
* The charity: 5-stars, as Special Olympic does such good for so many.
* A Very Special Christmas Collection: 2-stars, because of the doubts.

The doubts and questions remains: who does this set benefit? Does it still benefit Special Olympics? What about the original artists? A&M Records still has the distribution on this, so these are fair questions.

And I'll remove this 2-star review if Amazon and/or A&M Records can answer the above questions.

The songs are great but I thought I was getting the most popular selections from the 7 volume series - NOT! It is just what the cover says, 5 CD Set - the first 5 CDs in the 7 CD series. I also think I could have gotten the individual CDs, all 7, for less money than this box set.

If they can repackage and sell these for $90, I'm going become a seller and hawk my Hall and Oates LPs

Don't even consider buying this. How can Amazon post such a non gold box price? We the consumer aren't dumb. I thought economic downturn meant businesses would put their best wares forward at a discount to entice the consumer into buying. All i've seen at a lot of places is garage sale garbage at a Macy's price. Get with the program please!
