Diana Ross and Christmas songs fit like hand in glove. The warmth, emotion and feeling that she pours into these songs make this CD perfect for this season. It is hard to believe or understand why this CD was never released into the mainstream market. I just happened to discover it in NYC several years ago, but I have still never seen it in any local music store where I live. I guess with all the Britney, Hillary and Jessica CDs on the shelves, the merchants simply couldn't make room for Miss Ross. What a shame that we are subjected to the likes of these wannabes, while true, vocal brilliance like Diana's seems to remain in the shadows.

In any event, if you like Christmas music and don't have this CD, click the "Buy This Now" button immediately! I promise you won't take it out of your CD player until after New Years!

I was doing a search online to find some nice Christmas music when I stumbled upon this CD. I ordered it out of curiosity and have not stopped listening since. My question is, why is a CD this good so unknown?

I have heard Diana Ross sing before, but never had I heard her voice so clear and beautiful. All the songs are beautiful. When I listened to "What the World Needs Now", "His Eye is on the Sparrow", and "Overjoyed", I thought, this is some great stuff, but then I listened to "O Holy Night" and "Ave Maria", and got goose pimples all over.

It is really sad that this CD is not promoted for Christmas, but I am taking it with me to church for the entire month of December, and play one or two songs each Sunday so my brothers and sisters can hear such beautiful renditions of these Christmas favorites.

A wonderful, first class CD by Diana Ross...easily the best music she made in the 1990s. The arrangements are classic, the songs are tasteful--in short, it's a perfect Christmas CD from start to finish, and Diana does everything right. My question is, why on earth was this not released in the U.S.? Is it too sophisticated for Americans? Since Diana Ross' recent lackluster albums were released in the U.S. (such as "Take Me Higher" and "Every Day Is A New Day"), why not release her best album from that era? Bewildering. And, to boost, those albums fizzled and were forgotten after three weeks...good Christmas albums like this one sell year after year after year, and become reliable catalogue items.

First of all, I have no idea why this CD wasn't released with more fanfare/advertisement in the 1990s. Available only as an import, it doesn't even seem to have gotten a traditional domestic release here in the US - which is a crime because this album is simply gorgeous. The production is lush but not overdone and Ms. Ross' vocals are effortless and extremely beautiful throughout. It's definitely her best work in years. Standout Christmas tracks include "Winter Wonderland", "White Christmas", and "O Holy Night". But Diana also takes some real musical risks here and the results are incredible. Her versions of "Happy Christmas (War is Over)" and "His Eye is on the Sparrow" are stunning. The latter track hints that a gospel album is one genre she should really tackle at some point. Compared to the glossy Supremes classic holiday album, this one is a bit more focused on the voice and the arrangements. "A Very Special Season" is that rare CD that you can listen to in its entirety and enjoy each and every song, over and over.

The entire production is flawless. Diana's voice has never sounded better and the arrangements are simply beautiful. This is the first and last Christmas CD I play every holiday season, with many plays in between. Worth every penny!

Is if they had included her 6 vocal performances from the 1994 "Hallmark presents Diana Ross: Making Spirits Bright" CD. Who knew she had recorded so much Christmas music that year!

Beautiful music and a perfect, mature voice. Why has this record has to be an import?

A Question???, why was this beautiful Christmas Holiday CD never released in the U.S., if it was, it was very low-key. I happened to come by it last year, & It's just superb, as anything from the Boss, Miss Diana Ross. You will not be disappointed with the purchase of this High Class CD. Enjoy!, Merry Christmas!

wow.can you imagine diana ross and christmas music!?well,this is one of her best cds ever and the two go very well together.she sings on 14 great cuts and theres not a bad song or performance in the bunch!i listen to this even when it is not the holidays.

What a joy at Christmas time! This CD is one of the most stunning from Detroit's biggest Diva! Often, her persona, personality (and yes, hair!) distract from what is one of the greatest, most pure pop voices ever. Her "O Holy Night" matches her flawless version of "Amazing Grace" from the "Christmas In Vienna" concert (and also included here), and her haunting cover of Stevie Wonder's "Someday At Christmas" brought a tear to my eye. Some of the selections (Stevie's "Overjoyed" and "What The World Needs Now" aren't Christmas album staples, but Diana's heartfelt performances transcend the material. This CD is A MUST HAVE for Diana Ross fans and those who enjoy Christmas music, and a must-listen for anyone who doubts the legend's vocal ability. You won't be disappointed.
