More About the Author

Kerrelyn Sparks is the New York Times bestselling author of the Love at Stake series. Her heroes are generally fanged or furry, but never suffer from cavities or fur balls. And in spite of a tendency to nibble or howl at the moon, they're still wonderfully romantic. Please feel free to visit www.kerrelynsparks.com where you can read excerpts, play vampire games, join the forum, or send Kerrelyn an e-mail. She loves hearing from readers!

This short story was originally published in the Sugarplums and Scandal anthology which I never read. Since I love the Love at Stake series, I was so excited to find out that I could purchase this story without having to buy the anthology. "A Very Vampy Christmas" appears to be one of the earlier stories in the series because there were some single characters who aren't any longer (Ian McPhie, I am looking at you!). I have read about Maggie and Don a few times in the other books and I knew they ended up together but I was never sure exactly how that came to be.

I need to wonder no more! This story is short and quick but it is also fun and as has all the trademark humor I've come to enjoy in the Love At Stake series. The story was well worth the $1.99 I paid for it for my Kindle. This has made me even more excited for the next full book "Sexiest Vampire Alive" to be released. If you have somehow never managed to read a book in this series, you are missing out. Start with the first book "How to Marry A Millionaire Vampire". You won't regret it.

Kerrelyn Sparks was able to capture the right amount of romance and action into this short story. I adored this tale. I was so excited to get to read Maggie and Don Orlando's story and I wasnt disappointed at all. This series rocks! I want more of this world..

Reading A Very Vampy Christmas should come with a warning for funny bones everywhere. Even after re-reading the story, I still giggled and guffawed. The only reason I was affected so effectively was because of the quality writing. So even when I knew what to expect, the perfect comedic timing still came through making those clever parts continuously grin-worthy.

The first hint that I had that Ms. Sparks had written a light and entertaining tale was the ring incident. Good thing I wasn't drinking at the time. My sudden urge to laugh uproariously would have had dire consequences for my laptop.

Then the author switched gears after hooking me with humor. She delved into both their histories and their hearts by exploring both Maggie's and Don Orlando's points of view. Talk about star crossed lovers! At that point, Ms. Sparks presented me with two people who very much needed love but had no idea how to go about it. They both harbored secrets and insecurities and at that point in the story, I couldn't wait until it was revealed as to how they were going to accomplish getting beyond them. Of course, it didn't help with Maggie shouting at Don Orlando, "I'm not your banana!" That made getting the two of them together quite the challenge. I'm glad to say, the author was more than up for the task because at the end of one chapter, she had Don Orlando drop a bombshell. I never saw that one coming and it was so gripping!

The next thing I knew, I was feeling sad and sorry for both Maggie and Don Orlando. They both had hurts. The best thing, however, is how they banded together to figure it out how to fix things. They rose to the challenge, taking them both on an amazing journey of discovery and revelation. And after a bit of uncertainty and light drama, Ms. Sparks did it again.

I knew going in that it was just a short story, but considering the quality of some of the books I've gotten for free or $1.99 on here, i was expecting something kinda decent or even good. The story started out the same way the author's other books do, and I was curious to read this one after seeing references to it in so many of the other books. I was enjoying it somewhat, and going "OK, I can suspend disbelief" right up until the sudden declarations of love and all of the conversations that happened the next morning (which just happens to be Christmas, though there is no build-up in the story to make you aware of the timeframe. Same as saying it's all happening on a Tuesday). It was like the author had suddenly had enough. It also seems like it was supposed to be a regular novel, but wasn't approved, so someone said, "Hey, just cut it off right here on Christmas day and we can stick it in a holiday collection." Ridiculously rushed. Would it really have hurt to at least stretch it out for another chapter? There's no resolution to speak of. If I had known better, I probably wouldn't have even read it if it were free. You glean enough about their story from reading the other books, so it was a waste of time to read this, not to mention pay for it.

Ever since reading my first Kerrelyn Sparks 'Love At Stakes' book - Undead Next Door, I have been collecting her books of this series. Then I found out about this book. The only problem, it's an e-book. Luckily, I had just received an umexpected bonus from work, so I bought an Amazon Kindle. The first book I got was this one. It has all the elements of her series - humour, love and a little danger. Don Orlando loves Maggie & Maggie secretly loves Don. They both star in a soap opera on Vamp TV. Maggie thinks Don is a bit of a player, therefore won't go out with him. He has no memory of who he is. He decides to use this to ensnare Maggie. Along the way we meet various hilarious characters as they learn more about who Don really is or was. I would give 5 stars if it came in a paperback version as well instead of just as an e-book. It was definitely well worth the read!
