Great Fun! The best way to learn about America's capitol! A little bit of art, a little bit of trivia and a whole lot of fun! Inspiring for artists, too. Perfect for a class room, planning a vacation or for a history buff! Beautifully done! Wonderful!

The personally hand drawn and water colored illlustraions add so much to this book. It is chock full of divine illustrations.

I just love the watercolors as well as the information. This is exactly the kind of guide book I enjoy. It hits on all the right places and the artwork is so wonderful you feel like you are there. I can't wait for the next one.

This was the first book about DC that I bought upon moving to the District, and the one that I use the most. I like that it is unlike any other guidebook, as it's filled with quick facts and great ideas for weekend excursions.
There's a lot to do, see, and know in DC, which can be overwhelming. I think that Gessler has done a great job of picking and choosing very interesting places and information to highlight in this little book. There's just enough historical background to be interesting but not boring--I really appreciate the author's succinctness. You learn what you need to without any fluff. I also like that it's divided into neighborhoods, which makes it easy to find something neat to do wherever you're at. After over a year of living in the city, I still consult this book for ideas on what to do on the weekends. In fact, I have my "DC Bucket List" written within the pages and cross off items as I experience them. I sometimes throw it in my purse and take it with me when I'm out and about exploring (like today when I went to ride the boat at the C&O Canal). I doubt I would have ever known about certain things--like the Kilroy at the WWII monument or the spring grotto on the Capitol grounds--had I not stumbled across them in this book. It also makes a great gift, as I've noticed that people are usually fascinated by the illustrations. |
