4.0 out of 5 stars One of R&B's most overlooked divas., April 20, 2005

This review is from: Vesta (Audio CD)
In my opininon, Vesta Williams has never received the recognition or respect she deserves. This 1986 release was her debut album and includes the eminently-enjoyable ballads "It's You", "Don't Let Me Down", "You Make Me Want To Love Again" and "I'm Coming Back" (none of which got released as singles). The club-friendly dance tracks, however, sound dated, trite and overproduced and don't do Vesta's vocal talents justice.

5.0 out of 5 stars 5 Star Debut, November 4, 2008

Williams was given some very strong material to work with here on her 1986 self-titled debut CD. Although dance numbers like "Sweet Thang", "Don't Blow A Good Thing" and, of course the big hit off of this CD, "Once Bitten, Twice Shy" are enough to get anyone up on on their feet, the ballads are where Vesta truly shines. "You Make Me Want To Love Again", "It's You", the very naughty "Don't Let Me Down" and "I'm Coming Back" find Williams in her most comfortable environment. Her voice soars on these exceptional torch songs.

Exceeding all expectations, there is not a dull moment on this extraordinary debut. Unfortunately, because she did not look or sound like a Pop Princess ala Whitney Houston, A&M did not deem her important enough to cross over to the Pop charts and this disc went out of print very quickly (2 years after it's release!) so it is very hard to find and quite expensive, but, it's worth every penny.

4.0 out of 5 stars UH, excuse me..., November 9, 2007

...but where is "I'm Comin' Back"? That tune is one of the tracks that proved Vesta wasn't merely a Chaka copycat.... In my mind, I can still hear that that little scattin thing she did toward the end...

Somebody is being stingy with the Vesta and I'm not happy.

5.0 out of 5 stars Vesta's Debut CD !, September 6, 2003
A Kid's Review
This review is from: Vesta (Audio CD)
This album is fantabulous!!! Vesta have an excellent voice that everyone should have a chance to hear. It has beautiful ballads and slammin' up-tempo tracks that have held up suprisingly well. One of the standout tracks is her first hit single "Once Bitten, Twice Shy". Do yourself a favor, if you don't already have this album, get it!!!

4.0 out of 5 stars What happened to this title?, October 31, 2007
This review is from: Vesta (Audio CD)
I sure would like to know why on earth this particular Vesta cd title is not in print? There was some very solid tracks on this album. She was another one of those underrated songtreses from the 80's and 90's. These record companies need to get on their damn jobs and start reissuing these artists old material back on cd.
