4.0 out of 5 stars Quintessential Roayl Trux, December 9, 1999
By Terrill Bravender (Durham, NC USA) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
This really is the quintessential, junk-free Royal Trux. It may not be pretty, but hey, it's art. No Trux album is an easy listen (except, perhaps their major label boogie-fest, Thank You) but repeated listens get into your head and clear away some of the noise, smoke and dust. Neal says that they make music for people who like music, whatever that means. I guess it means that if you want your CD's to be played in the Gap, or if you are a fan of radio-friendly unit shifters, stay far far away from any RTx disc. The only problem is I can hardly wait for the next disc. Since getting clean and going back to Drag City, they are on a serious roll.

4.0 out of 5 stars Today I believe that this is my favorite RT album, October 31, 2000
By A Customer
WOW! Awesome production. Very clear, up front instruments careen across your face with "Waterpark". The drum sound is amazing. I record and would love to know how they got such a sucked-in sound. "Witch's Tit" is a dark and gorgeous song with Jennifer actually crooning out an actual melody over a slow build up with chord change after chord change (not unlike "Stevie" off ACCELERATOR). The song explodes with those drums again into an anthem until Neil's legendary riff comes in and tucks the song in. The tropical pop-grunge tunes are cool too though I prefer the darker stuff. The album gets very narcotic before "Blue Is The Frequency" comes in and cleans house. Its loungey, wanton intro jerks into one of the ALL-TIME HEAVIEST GROOVES I HAVE EVER HEARD. Are we talking "Custard Pie","Super Stupid", or "Outta Love Again"? I'm afraid so, purists. People, this jam goes on and on with a drum fill which comes in after the halfway mark that will FLATTEN YOU. Awesome interplay here. Thank you Neil and Jennifer.

4.0 out of 5 stars What were you expecting?, November 24, 1999
By "bjwhit" (Beaver Falls, PA USA) - See all my reviews
To the one-star review: cryptic reviews do nobody any good and make you look like a fool. 'Nuff said. Anywho, this is the perfect album for a Trux fan. They are no longer on the major and it shows. I don't want every album to sound the same. Who does? I think they've taken all the best elements of their past sound and put it down on a very mature and great album. Right on.
