4.0 out of 5 stars Quintessential Roayl Trux
This really is the quintessential, junk-free Royal Trux. It may not be pretty, but hey, it's art. No Trux album is an easy listen (except, perhaps their major label boogie-fest, Thank You) but repeated listens get into your head and clear away some of the noise, smoke and dust. Neal says that they make music for people who like music, whatever that means. I guess...

1.0 out of 5 stars The State of Virginia rejects this record
As a part time resident of a neighboring county, I reject any idea that this landscape has anything to do with Royal Trux. As a part time resident of New York City, I reject any idea that this landscape has anything to do with Royal Trux. As a person born in Chicago, Illinois, I reject any idea that this landscape has anything to do with Royal Trux. As a human being. .

I guess it means that if you want your CD's to be played in the Gap, or if you are a fan of radio-friendly unit shifters, stay far far away from any RTx disc. The only problem is I can hardly wait for the next disc. Since getting clean and going back to Drag City, they are on a serious roll.

4.0 out of 5 stars Today I believe that this is my favorite RT album, October 31, 2000

WOW! Awesome production. Very clear, up front instruments careen across your face with "Waterpark". The drum sound is amazing. I record and would love to know how they got such a sucked-in sound. "Witch's Tit" is a dark and gorgeous song with Jennifer actually crooning out an actual melody over a slow build up with chord change after chord change (not unlike "Stevie" off ACCELERATOR). The song explodes with those drums again into an anthem until Neil's legendary riff comes in and tucks the song in. The tropical pop-grunge tunes are cool too though I prefer the darker stuff. The album gets very narcotic before "Blue Is The Frequency" comes in and cleans house. Its loungey, wanton intro jerks into one of the ALL-TIME HEAVIEST GROOVES I HAVE EVER HEARD. Are we talking "Custard Pie","Super Stupid", or "Outta Love Again"? I'm afraid so, purists. People, this jam goes on and on with a drum fill which comes in after the halfway mark that will FLATTEN YOU. Awesome interplay here. Thank you Neil and Jennifer.

To the one-star review: cryptic reviews do nobody any good and make you look like a fool. 'Nuff said. Anywho, this is the perfect album for a Trux fan. They are no longer on the major and it shows. I don't want every album to sound the same. Who does? I think they've taken all the best elements of their past sound and put it down on a very mature and great album. Right on.

5.0 out of 5 stars What is wrong with you people?, October 18, 1999

Royal Trux's last two releases have been the best of their brilliant career. One star? Puleeze...go pick up the flavor du jour (Basement Jaxx, Dot Allison) and write about that instead. Thanks.

4.0 out of 5 stars The Power of the Blues, July 15, 2003

I've loved RTx since i heard Cats and Dogs a year or so ago, and i can say that Veterans of Disorder is the closest they have come to making the flat out rock record that their major label albums hinted at. The noisy, pure distortion and feedback of earlier masterpieces like Twin infinitives is usurped almost completely (other than "Sickazz Dog") in favor of making an album that is equal parts pure rock (a la "Teeth") and bluesy rock (a la "Stevie"). The first two tracks set the tone for this mix, with the great rockin' riff of "Waterpark" and the slow bluesy "Stop". Even though I could have lived without "Sickazz Dog", the aforementioned openers, the tropicalia-cum-psychedelia of "Lunch Money" and the flat out excellent "Blue is the Frequency" more than make up for that minor mis-step. A very strong 4. Too bad they couldn't have ended it on this high a note.

This record is so great. It's just really fun from beginning to end. It really is true when you hear that this is the best Stones rip off band of all time. The thing is, they are noise-rock Stones so therefore it is completely original. Listen to this record if you like really grimy rock and roll.
