The book does an excellent job of meeting its goal "to inform, guide, and assist all those involved with the welfare of dogs." The dog owner will be better able to care for the well dog and will have a better understanding of what can go wrong and how problems can be corrected. Although intended for British audiences, references to local laws, etc., do not detract from the book's value in the United States. Written in layperson's language, this is a comprehensive and excellent reference for larger pet collections.

About the Author
Trevor Turner has lived with dogs all his life. He qualified from the Royal Veterinary College, London in the late nineteen fifties and shortly afterwards established a suburban practice which has grown into a large veterinary hospital of which he is the principal. Writing and talking widely on canine and associated topics, he has received from the British Small Animal Veterinary Association the prestigious Melton Award in recognition of his work in forging links between the veterinary profession, breeders and the pet owning public. Married to a veterinary nurse Jean, they currently share their lives with three dogs and four cats.

Whether you own a dog as a family pet, or for showing or breeding, whether you have one dog, or several, this is the book you just HAVE TO HAVE. It covers everything from simple first aid, to severe illnesses, it's a bible for dog owners. The content is condensed into simple easy to read terms, with diagrams, pictures and photographs. An index at the back takes you straight to what you are looking for, or just simply opening the book can get you to the particular chapter or subject you are seeking. My particular copy is quite old and well used. I have had dogs for many years and this particular book has proved helpful in many situations and it's one part of my collection which is constantly pulled out of the book case. A must for dog owners!

Don't waste your money on this book. EVERYtime I've looked to it for information on problems my dogs are experiencing I have found nothing.
