Book Description

September 9, 2003
This text takes a clinically relevant problem-oriented approach to veterinary ophthalmology for all species. Coverage includes case studies with accompanying multiple-choice questions on CD-ROM to encourage students to think through scenarios and treatment options in a systematic manner. Rather than merely presenting facts for students to memorize, this book with CD-ROM helps students develop critical thinking skills and prepares them to handle clinical situations they will encounter in practice. The CD-ROM also has explanations of incorrect answers for the multiple-choice questions and cross-references to material in the book that can be used for self-study.This resource is also helpful to practicing veterinarians who are looking for a review of ophthalmology. The text, along with the CD-ROM, can be used as a review manual or as a valuable reference to turn to when confronted with a patient with an unrecognizable or challenging eye condition.
  • This is the only book on veterinary ophthalmology that includes a CD-ROM.
  • Uses a problem-based (or case-based) approach to make the material more relevant to students by applying concepts to actual clinical cases.
  • The material discussed in each chapter corresponds with 3-4 clinical cases on the CD-ROM to allow the students to apply what they have learned.
  • Covers ophthalmology for small animals, as well as food animals, birds, horses, and exotic pets.
  • CD-ROM includes multiple-choice questions and answers; if questions are answered incorrectly, users are provided with a helpful explanation and directed to the section in the book that addresses that topic.

REVIEWS OF CURRENT EDITION:

"This book-CD combination is not only an excellent tool for the veterinary student, but would also be a good brush-up for the practicing veterinarian. I am sure that clinic technicians would also benefit from this excellent educational tool. I fired up the CD-ROM and was thrilled with it. It started right up, navigation was obvious and easy, and the sound was clear and clean. The CD includes corresponding case studies, as well as multiple choice questions and answers; if questions are answered incorrectly, you are given a helpful explanation and directed to the section in the book that addresses that topic. "For busy students and practitioners comes this concise guide to vet ophthalmology. The book is structured around chapters dealing with specific components of the eye along with typical conditions found. Each chapter is cross-referenced to case study material found on the CD along with word elements, glossary terms & clinical manifestations on the lead-in page of each chapter. I found the book well organized and useful for the veterinarian who is dealing with a difficult case and needs quick reference material. Overall I found Chapter 1 on Eye Examinations and diagnostic procedures to be extremely well done. I agree with the authors that a complete understanding of the examination process is critical to successful outcomes, so the number of pages allocated by the authors to this chapter was totally satisfactory. The remaining chapters accomplish their goals admirably and are very readable."
