Veterinary Technicians Daily Reference Guide,
By L Merrill (Seattle, WA USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Veterinary Technician's Daily Reference Guide: Canine and Feline (Paperback)
Cut to the chase! That is what this book is all about. If I'm in a hurry to find the answer I don't want to hunt through the text to find what I'm looking for. The chart format lays it all out for quick review. Also, it is much easier to view options in similar categories. This is truly a book that lives up to it's title. Definately want to keep this book close by for easy access. Why didn't someone think of this sooner?

Daily Reference Guide,

True, this book can be a cut-to-the-chase reference, but it depends on what you're looking for. A lot of the stuff is good, but I dont like the chart form. If you're looking for a disease its not that fun to find it, let alone read it in the skinny columns. I bought it but I never use it.

My entire practice has gotten alot out of this book. It is not TERRIBLY invasive but it gives the need to know info when you need to know it. The anatomy pages are great and the hematology references are helpful. All in all the layout makes things easy to find with out having to haul around the 5minute consult that weighs 43 pounds. Great guide for busy techncians. Highly recommended.

Perfect Book to have on hand,

This book is great. When I got it I was just starting out in the field. When I didn't understand a term used by the Dr. or what a medication was prescribed for. This book would tell me. I love it.
Great to keep at the clinic, for on hand info.

I returned it,

I was hoping to find a really useful, practical reference, but was disappointed in this book. The scope of each topic was too broad to be practical, and the tables are sideways to the rest of the text which made it harder for me to read. The kicker, though, was that a couple of entries are just wrong, or outdated. For example, a feline onychectomy or declaw is done with guillotine-type nail trimmers?? Not at my practice. I ended up returning this text back to Amazon.

I recently had to buy this book again because I lost my first copy (my coworkers probably stole it, it's that good! [j/k]). But I love this book. It's an excellent reference manual, love the format (charts make it easy to compare (e.g., symptoms of distemper and parvo)), nice organization, love the color plates...really, nothing bad at all about it! And for the low price, it's worth it a thousand times over. Buy this book!

Nice reference book to have close by your side. It hits all the important stuff and leaves out the fluff.

Very Disappointed - Returned the Book,
This review is from: Veterinary Technician's Daily Reference Guide: Canine and Feline (Paperback)
This book was created by two veterinary technicians who graduated in 1998 and published the book in 2000. It shows they have lack of understanding on many topics. The book is difficult to use and the charts are very cumbersome. For the lay person, I can see how this book may be useful, but for a licensed veterinary technician some of the information is out dated and very opinionated. It was not carefully thought out. RETURN IT WHILE YOU CAN!
