Book Description

March 1992 0891110283 978-0891110286
A complilation of all the case histories of each of the vetos cast in the UN Security Council from its inception in 1945 to date. The Security Council is the prime decision maker of the six organs of the UN - the other five being the General Assembly, Economic and Social Research Council, Trusteeship Council, International Court of Justice and the Secretariat - as member states are obliged to carry out its decisions. Introductory chapters give a brief history of internationalism leading to the creation of the UN and an explanation of the veto. The main body of the work deals systematiclly with case histories of all vetos cast. The UN itself does not have such a compilation and although much as been written about the veto there is no published record of each of them.
