5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent, fun album of the '90s hits!, October 11, 2004
This review is from: Vh1: I Love the 90's (Audio CD)
I thought that this album was very good. At first, I was skeptical, given that these songs have been played thousands of times on radio stations, car stereos, even sports arenas and stadiums. And the novelty value of some songs. I liked that they chose the Spice Girls Say You'll be There instead of that silly Wannabe. That song displays their singing and sexy vocal styles more. And lots of party numbers like Whoomp There It Is, Mambo No. 5, O.P.P., Jump Around, En Vogue's heavy funk of My Lovin', I'm Too Sexy and others. That Friends theme song is still recognizable a decade later--this full version beats the 30 or so seconds that we had to hear on TV. Some critics dismissed these songs when they first came out, but they have really held up some 7 to 13 years later. People still love these songs. I still don't like Tubthumping--there's about 4 or five genres going on in that song that's all about heavy drinking. But this is a very diverse album and it's about time that the '90s got its respect. They talk about the '70s, '80s. '60s and other decades a lot, but the '90s need its respect and this album justifies that! The mix and mastering of the album is just superb and top notch for its 53 minutes!

5.0 out of 5 stars I'm too sexy for this CD, July 27, 2004
This review is from: Vh1: I Love the 90's (Audio CD)

This is an awesome collection of great, upbeat music I remember from when I was growing up in the 90s. The great thing about the 90s was the diversity of the popular songs and, oh, the one-hit wonders we had! From longer-standing groups like power girl group En Vogue, Canadian rockers Barenaked Ladies to the ultimate one hit wonder Right Said Fred. They're all here! From the opening piano of "O.P.P" to the horns of "Mambo No.5" - I love this CD! Put it on, crank it up and dance around your house to show everyone YOU love the 90s!

4.0 out of 5 stars Every song you'll actually know, December 13, 2005

I would have given this CD one more star if there were more tunes but I can't complain too much because the price was just right for the range of music that can be had on one cd.

I can agree with another reviewer in that "grunge" was completely overlooked here in favor of the pop stuff (Hanson? Come on!) but there are other 90's compilations out there that have plenty of grunge on them (and plenty of songs that no one heard except when they were in the middle of turning off the radio at 3 o'clock in the morning).

Regardless, this compliation is pretty representative of the range of music that was big in the 90's - pop, rap, even theme songs from TV shows. That's what made the 90's so much more better than the 80's - no one type of music dominated (whereas, in the 80's, the cheesier the better) and, best of all, they were the Clinton years.

This one cd blows Billboard's 90's compliation out of the water ... and then some.

Good deal for great music.
