5.0 out of 5 stars One of the best Tarot Decks ever produced!, May 1, 2007
This review is from: Via Tarot: The Path of Life (Cards)
The Via Tarot: The Path of Life by Susan Jameson is well worth what you will pay for it and more. It is an invaluable tool. I first read a small review about this deck and saw a few pictures of the cards and decided to order it. I am a collector of Tarot Decks and I specifically look for decks created by artist and writers who emphasize the relationship between the Tarot and Qabalah. This deck is one such deck. The creator uses the Crowley/Harris Thoth deck as her framework and builds from there. She spent hours meditating on each design and the meaning behind the description to create each card beautifully. This deck comes with a rather large book that tells what each card means to her. She is truly an Artist who knows her stuff. I have worked with the Tarot for over 20 years and I was amazed by the symbology of each card. I have shown this deck to the Lady who was my first teacher of the Tarot and she was blown away, stating that this is the only deck that she has seen emerge in years that she would use to meditate on. Believe me, that says alot. Each card is a visual masterpiece. It is detailed with occult symbology that will aid you in unlocking the deeper receses of your mind. A powerful deck, of great use to either a new beginner or a seasoned reader. I cannot stress enough the importance of this deck. Besides the Crowley/Harris Thoth deck, this is the one other deck you should own and more importantly, you should use. Absolutely Invaluable!

This review is from: Via Tarot: The Path of Life (Cards)
The Via Deck is inspired by Aleister Crowley's Toth Deck, but is definitely not a clone of it. The artwork is beautiful and full of symbolism. The symbolism is drawn from various sources, including Kabbalistic(spelled with a C by Susan Jameson), alchemistic, magical and astrological. Kabbalistic principles seem to dominate over the others. The artwork is fairly subdued and very easy on the eye. According to Jameson, the Major Arcana is inspired by "spirit visions". The Majors are full of symbolism from the various sources, and is quite thought provoking. The Majors, although inspired by the Toth Deck, do not contain similar artwork. The book, included in the deck set, gives a detailed explanation for each of the cards of the Majors, as well as the divinatory meaning for each. The Court cards do follow closely the symbolism in the Toth Deck, however they do not bear the same names. There is a short description for each Court card, along with the divinatory meaning for each. You can easily see that the Minors or pip cards, are inspired by the Toth Deck. Each of the Minor cards contain depictions of Crowley's suggestion for the card, in a "bubble" held by a person. The name of each card as well as its divinatory meaning, is given for each card. What I did find interesting, is, that if you look closely as to how the "bubble" is being held, and the facial expression of the person holding the "bubble", you can get a feeling for the mood relating to the card. I do highly recommend this Deck. Although inspired by the Toth Deck, the Via Tarot stands on its own.
