Utopian Viewpoints in Perspective, June 6, 2004
This review is from: Viable Utopian Ideas: Shaping a Better World (Paperback)
Editor, Arthur Shostak has taken on the challenge of assembling a variety of short essays focusing on utopian subjects and viewpoints, selected from a rather eclectic group of indivuals and sources. Althought I got bogged down during the first few chapters, as I continued reading, I was struck by the interesting diversity in the viewpoints of the various individuals Shostak selected. as I got deeper into this book I did indeed find it worthwhile and often fascinating, since the contrasting viewpoints pulled nicely together to create an overall synergistic effect.
Despite the sometimes disjointed academic format, I would definitely recommend that anyone interested in Utopian Visions and Concepts add this book to their library, as it most certainly provides a multifaceted deption of Utopian Thinking in its many contexts. The book thus constitutes an important reference volume. Elliott Maynard, Ph.D., President, Arcos Cielos Research Center, Sedona, Arizona.
