Most individuals who possess an "at risk" version of the ApoE gene (i.e. at least one ApoE e4 allele) will never develop Alzheimer's disease, and the degree of risk associated with this genotype is still a matter of scientific debate. Moreover, for a fraction of the price of this test kit, a mainstream genotyping service like 23andme.com will not only tell you your ApoE genotype, but also examine a million other SNPs, providing you with far more information about your genetic makeup. If you really want to know your ApoE genotype--information which is of no proven medical benefit--then a mainstream genotyping service is a much cheaper and more reliable option.
Bottom line: The manner in which this product has been described by the manufacturer and/or seller is highly unethical. Do not buy.

This product is just a kit for collecting and sending
saliva to a laboratory.
They do not inform you that the assay for determining the ApoE4
result costs an additional $395.00. There is a disclaimer
in the fine print, but they should disclose the
full cost for obtaining the test results.
In addition, a positive with this test means that an
individual has an increased risk for Alzheimer's Disease.
This condition, however, is not solely a genetic disorder and this
test is not a yes/no for disease predisposition. As is the
case with most things medical, the truth is more complex
than advertised by the vendor.
