5.0 out of 5 stars GREAT opener
I bought this can opener because of the price and the size of it. It is extremely easy to use and fits in a drawer in my kitchen ... out of the way. I love this and am happy that I purchased it. Would recommend this to everyone!

3.0 out of 5 stars A pretty good opener
Intended for people with arthritis or other hand-dexterity difficulties, this opener works completely hands-free. It uses two AA batteries, is slow and noisy, and wobbles alarmingly as it rotates around the can - but it actually does work, just as advertised!
IMPORTANT SAFETY NOTE: The "No sharp edges" claim is true, but *only* for the *lid* of the can. This opener...

IMPORTANT SAFETY NOTE: The "No sharp edges" claim is true, but *only* for the *lid* of the can. This opener still leaves a pretty sharp cut-steel edge on the main body of the can. Don't let small children or severely impaired people use this opener without supervision.

1.0 out of 5 stars This is, by far, the most useless piece of garbage I've ever purchased., May 24, 2008

To be frank, writing reviews isn't something that interests me very much, but in this case, I feel especially motivated. This "can opener" is even less useful than a club would have been in the hands of a caveman, simply because it's neither heavy nor sturdy enough to bash the can open. Here's the thing: You put the thing on the can, you press the button, it spins around the can, opening it as it goes, the problem comes in when it A. Stops in the middle, forcing you to hold it in the proper position, constantly readjusting it to keep it's little metal contact depressed on the can, B. It takes a minimum of 3 revolutions to retract the cutter back far enough from the lid to remove the lid, all whilst continuing to hold the thing in position, mind you. Frankly it's faster, easier, cleaner and neater to open it with a manual can opener, and much less aggravating. All of this ignores that I returned the first one I ordered because it came stained with tomato sauce (while supposedly being new). I can only imagine it was also a return from an equally unsatisfied customer.

1.0 out of 5 stars Waste of money, May 21, 2008

What a waste of money. Does not only not work as it is supposed to, but it doesn't work at all. Tried on several cans and it just doesn't want to cut through (even if you help it along). Might make a good paperweight though.

This was a piece of unusable junk. Took me 10 minutes to disengage the unit on the very first attempt to open a can.Tried one more can...same issue...gave up and returned it to Amazon for a refund.

This can opener works really well. I like the fact that it cuts below the top rim of the can, which means the cutting parts don't get dirty. My husband worries a little that the top of the can is sharp once the lid and upper rim are off, but I don't see it as a problem if you're careful. Except for our dog food cans, which we put a plastic lid on, most cans get tossed in the trash right away anyway. Definitely a worthwhile purchase!
