I loved Joydrop's first album, Metasexual, and thought the musicianship to be amazing but I also felt the lyrics to be a tad mediocre. However, here on Viberate, their sophmore release, I notice an improvement in the writing but the music in general doesn't do much for me in terms of growth. In fact it's a little less experimental and they seem to stay within basic...

I first heard "Sometimes Wanna Die" on the radio after a particularily horrible night class and I thought "this is great!" so the next day I went to the radio station's weblog and found out it was Joydrop. I'd never heard of them before and I had to wait a whole month for the CD (I know, so long) but the wait was worth it. Tara Slone has great vocals with a good amount of edge to her voice, but with songs like "Embrace Me" she's absolutely beautiful. Most of the songs deal with some view of human nature, from the sarcastic look at the record companies in "AmericanDream Girl" to the life of stars in "This is not real". It's a great album to listen to to just kick back with, blast in the car or go jogging with. Go pick it up. It's well worth it.

If you like songs with deep lyrics that you can relate to, while still sounding good and with strong female vocals, then I'd highly recommend this CD. At first, I'll admit I wasn't as taken with this particular CD as much as I was with 'Metasexual' but, it ended up growing on me and I think this album, while the lyrics are generally less emotion-focused as their last one, are filled more with more intelligent, sarcastic, and sardonic views on society, and life in general. In my opinion, the best songs on this disc were American Dreamgirl (someone had to say it), This Is Not Real (because it is so true) and Expiry Dates (Ok, I just think this one sounds cool). I love their lyrics and their sound. Their lyrics have kind of a T.S. Eliot style to them, and they just sound.. well what can I say, Tara Slone has the most beautiful voice I've ever heard in my life. Sure maybe some of the other songs on the cd could have been a little bit better, but they still have that amazing sound unique to Joydrop in them, and they'll definitely grow on you. Overall, I'd say its a great CD.

I live in near Detroit, and I'm an avid listener of a Alternative Rock station called 89X in Winsor, Canada. I heard "Sometimes Wanna Die", by Joydrop and thought it was cool. Later on, on a Canadian Music show on the channel, "American DreamGirl" was played (which isn't a single yet, but will be) and I was tottaly blown away. Then, Tara Slone and Thomas Payne (lead singer and guitarist/programmer) from Joydrop were on the channel. They played live music (those 2 songs i mentioned) and they talked about Viberate. Local influence. Then Tara was tottaly cool. She made fun of boybands and cracked jokes about how overplayed Staind was, when "It's Been Awhile" was played. Then she sang and I practically fainted. Her voice was sooo pure. On live radio, she sounded like the CD. That night, they played a totaly free show in Detroit. As unbusy and broke as I was, I went to see them. I had never seen Tara before and she was sooo hot.:) Funny, talented, and beautiful. Stinks that she's famous. Anyway, I coulnd't talk the show was so amazing. So, after all that, I couldn't see any reason not to go out and buy this CD. So I did. 1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9,10,11,and 12 were the best ones. Wait that's the whole CD! That's cause it's awesome. American Dreamgirl is still my favorite (written by TARA! It's influence was from some jerk from 89x too). Plus all four members helped wirte the entire Album. That is really cool. Everyone writes. Then they go and play the music like gods. I will be buying their first Album, Metasexual for sure. This CD ranks number 3 on my all-time list (behind Make Yourself- Incubus and Third Eye Blind- Third Eye Blind) So go buy it! Tara rules!

WOW!!... after reading all of the reviews, I can't imagine how MOST of you guys only liked a few of the songs on the Metasexual CD...I think the WHOLE CD is so remarkable. Tara Sloane kicks serious ass w/ her amazing voice and the rest of the band really gets you into each and every song!! I'll admit, you have to listen to the whole CD when you are in easy going frame of mind because once it hits you...you'll never take it out of your CD player! JOYDROP I KNOW YOU'RE NOT TOGETHER BUT SHOULD ONE OF YOU READ THIS...THANK YOU FOR 2 MOST AMAZING ALBUMS!!!

I learned of Tara through INXS Rockstar and then learned of Joydrop after she was dropped from that competition (very shockingly, IMO). I really liked her and she is definitely a hottie (she looked AWESOME when she did the rock chick thing singing Paranoid). Being a fan of many rock and pop female artists (artists from Garbage to Kylie to Gwen to Pat Benatar to Berlin to Alanis to Avril to Kelly Clarkson), so what Tara does is right up my alley. She should have hung around in the INXS competition much longer than she did... and I hope the exposure will help her in whatever project comes next. As for this CD... I really like it alot... American Dreamgirl (written by Tara) is awesome... Thick Skin is great... and the rest totally grow on you... cannot do wrong with this purchase... I wore it out listening to it over and over working around the house this weekend... each time it ended I just hit play again and kept going.

Viberate, the second album from Joydrop, will be well received by those who enjoyed their first album, Metasexual. Viberate has a bit of a harder edge in terms of the music, but the lyrics are still beautiful and deep, although almost anything would sound beautiful when sung by lead singer Tara Sloane. All in all an excellent second album that fans will enjoy.

It's been a long wait since Joydrop's debut album "Metasexual" hit stores more than two years ago. Joydrop rewards us for our wait with the release of "Viberate." "Viberate" has everything you loved about "Metasexual" with a few surprises inbetween. "Viberate" is no doubt one of the most anticipated albums of the summer for us alternative rock fans. The album offers a great listen. Tara Slone once again proves to be one of the most experienced and most talented vocalists in the business today. Her voice is just absoluetly breath taking. The guitar arrangements on this album are beautiful as well. There is a great deal more programming on this album as opposed to "Metasexual" giving the album a more three dimensional sound. This one will definatly please us Joydrop fans who have been awaiting the release of this album and it will definatly pick up new fans. "Viberate" is the best purchase I've made all summer.

Their Sound/Their Music-There are two ways to describe this CD; pop with bite or pop-rock. Vocals range from "sugary" sweet ("Sometimes Wanna Die") to threatening ("American Dreamgirl")depending on the subject. No matter how she sings, Tara Sloane sounds honest and controlled.

Best Songs-
2)"American Dreamgirl"-This is an edgy song about what the media portrays as "perfect" or "beautiful" and how some people can see through those ideas. Best lyrics: "Beautiful, wasted/Surrounded by the world that made us/Plastic and wanted/Subscribing to your airbrushed magazines/Filled with American Dreamgirls..."
3)"Sometimes Wanna Die"-This is a song about a relationship gone sour, with powerful lyrics and a catchy chorus. This song is like a fast-paced ballad, and Tara loses the edge she had on the song before and sings in a very sweet way. Best lyrics: "She said I'm nto gonna let this one go/Nobody's on ym side/Nobody seems to see/ How much, how deep, how far these things can be..." and "And you were the start/And nwo you are the end/And you left me with nothing to defend/I need the voice of a good friend..."
9)"Expiry Dates"-This song is much heavier and "depressing" than any of their other songs. This one is about the end of the world and where people will go after. Best lyrics: "Before I leave this world/I wnat to wtach it spin from out there/Watch the colors swirl/Before we blow it into shades of black and grey/This could happen any day now..." and "No wings and no agtes/Just skill-testing questions and expiry dates/When you step on through the next phase..."

Final Recommendations-Any person who's sick of mainstream pop music or anybody who loves lead female singers should pick this up.

I bought this CD after hearing "Beautiful like me" from their first album on the radio. I immediately loved the first three tracks, especially "American Dreamgirl," which is an amazing song. After listening to the whole CD a few times through, I love every song on the CD and can't stop listening to it! Because each band member wrote at least one song on the CD, you get a variety of songs, that are all original and truely Awesome- Really, go out and buy this CD!

Metasexual by Joydrop is one of the best albums I have heard in recent memory. It has songs that have a pop-sensibility that is so extraordinary that I am suprised I don't hear their music selling every product on TV. With that being said, Viberate's release caused me to immediately purchase the CD and I was not unsatisfied, although it did take a few listens. I infact am still assimilating many of the songs.

Retained from Metasexual is that dramatic sense, and energy. While comparisons to Garbage always will be made, Tara Sloan has more character in her voice, and their song development is more sophisticated, more like Tracy Bonham in song, and Radiohead inspired in music.

"American Dream Girl" seems to veer towards Hole meets Ani Difranco, a sort of sequel to Metasexual's "Beautiful" (one of the best songs I have ever heard..)

Really as I said in the title, it is worth the effort to explore this album. It is not as immediately infectuous as their prior effort but it contains some really smart poetry and at moments you gain that sense of chill and drama that makes art physically ecstatic.

And Tara Sloan has excellent vocal control, and a beautiful voice. Her inflection draws out an emotional power from words that could fall flat.
