Here in this CD lies irrefutable evidence that there is no justice in this world.This is a world where untalented fashion models (masquerading as artists )lacking musical vision and accountants in suits and ties rule the music world.
A world where music produced by real talents die like dogs in the bargain basement of your local HMV.
TTD's "Vibrator" is such an album and I consider it as nothing short of a classic.
Kicking off with the monster funk of the title track."Vibrator" opens up with a killer B-line thats simply to die for.
As usual TTDS voice is relentles.This is a voice money or training cant replicate.You are either born with it or youre not.
His melodies? second to none.Lyrics? living poetry.
From the old school soul of 'Holding on to you' to the malancholic and metaphysical 'Ressurection', he weaves themes of love, loss, obsession and spirituality into one seamless suite of 13 songs.I cannot overemphasize the importance of the power of this mans voice.Even a somewhat corny lyric like"goodbye picasso hello dolly" ( From holding unto you) sounds like Keates when he sings it.The production is also on point.
And please watch out for the juggernaut track that is "TTd's recurring Dream";where TTD flips between his rustic yet soulful vocal to a Prince like falseto underscored with dark sombering beats and exotic strings !
Dont get me wrong, this album is not all heavy stuff about love, death and the spiritual. There is also the cheeky and humourous "supermodel Sandwich W Cheese".
I cant praise this album too much and the closest I can compare it to is possible The Family Stands " Moon In Scopio" or Princes'"Sign Of The Times" .

Overall Vibrator is a lot more accomplished than "Symphony Or Damn" and a lot more accesable than " Neither Fish nor Flesh". And yes I do think this is the greatest album he has ever made..and for me one of the best albums to merge Rock, Funk and Pop.Dont let this album die in the bargain basement at HMV.

This is one of TTD's (Sananda Maitreya) best albums. Wonderful compositions, especially "Holding On To You" "We Don't Have That Much Time Together" and "Surrender" (which KGSR played for a while). The biggest performance statement made on this CD is Kevin Wyatt's bass; absolutely rock solid, it walks a fine line between too much and just right.

TTD's singing, as usual, is singular and outstanding.

This is the kind of album Lenny Kravitz WISHES he could make.

TTD released this from the wilderness and Vibrator was highly slept on. Arguably his finest song yet, the beautiful Holding Onto You, nestles up alongside the probing title track, latin influenced We Don't Have That Much Time Together and the funky Supermodel Sandwich in it's two excellent incarnations. There are no weak songs as such and the highlights alone make this album well worth checking out.

Maybe it was the title. Maybe it was the (blond) hair. Fans of TTD ignored "Vibrator" in droves, and that's a shame because this is a classic. (And no, the title does not refer to what you think it does. It has to do with spiritual reawakenings.)

From slow burn sexiness to fast-paced funk, this is the most even, consistent, well-crafted TTD album.

I see Wynton Marsalis mesmerized, James Brown befuddled, Aretha astounded, Mariah mortified, Beyonce blushing, Eric Clapton clapping, and Pelham Goodard (Peegee) gasping. Ahhh yes! The seven-layer salad of song (jazz-funk-soul-pop-r&b-rock-calypso)...The Magic Johnson of music. My fav...TTD's Recurring Dream. I luv the metaphysical stories, Jimi Hendrix-like wa-wa guitar sound, and that cowbell sounding percussion. Mad props to We don't have...great calypso, Holding on to you, Supermodel Sandwich w/cheese...so, so funky, as well as all the others. It's too bad many slept on this work of art. But many slept on Ray Charles until just recently. Although the album title doesn't indicate what the song or album is about, nevertheless, it is less than flattering. No other complaints though. Definitely an album for the thinking person and introspective. I genuflect out of courtesy and respect.

I have to admit that I slept on this album back in 1995 for other artists like Michael Jackson's HIStory album and Prince's Gold Experience. Though they both were enjoyable, this WAS the album of 1995. However it was so poorly promoted by Sony that no-one heard it had been released.
This stands up to measurment alongside his best albums (Symphony Or Damn and Wildcard). This album encapsitates you from the start. From the roaring snarl of guitars from the opening title track, to the sweet ballard of the hit 'Holding On To You', to the chicken greased funk of 'Read My Lips (I Dig Your Scene),' to the latin-dance tinged 'We Don't Have That Much Time Together.' From the trip-hop soul bearer 'Surrender' to the reflective 'TTD's Recurring Dream', to the chilling closer 'It's Been Said'. But two of the most impressive tracks 'Supermodel Sandwich' in it's two incarnations, the first a rock/funk track and the second a chill out club funk song. Throughout this album, TTD is on fine form.
For any lover of music, I strongly recommend you buy this- the perfect album that no-one heard.

I own this CD thanks, in part to my sister who told me that one of her 5 CD's she'd take to a deserted island would include TTD's Symphony or Damn. She obviously hasn't heard this one--which is why I'm going to buy it and send it to her (giftwrapped, of course, courtesy of amazon.com!).

From the beginning of the title track until the end of this CD, every song is a journey to a different place, evoking its own feeling. It is an amazing compilation of when music is beautiful--"Undeniably", pop--"We Don't Have That Much Time Together, or profound--"Resurrection".

Every time I spin this jewel, I discover another depth I hadn't heard before and I fall in love with a different song. I will buy his next CD unheard because I have a feeling that, just like his first 4, I will enjoy the artistry that Terence Trent D'Arby bestows on every melody and lyric.

I have owned this CD since it's release. I pulled it off the shelf last week to blow the dust off of it and give it another go. As the CD started, I wondered to myself why I don't listen to it more often. From the first track, I was shakin' my money maker! I loved seeing Sam Cooke's lyrics embedded in Vibrator ("Feel it shaking like a bowl of soup, let it go loop de loop"). He is a definite lyricist, intellectual and poet.

However, I am personally turned off by the speaking parts of this CD. I can't get into the poems before the songs. I don't like it in other artists, and truly can't appreciate it here. It breaks up the flow of the music for me, and serves as more of a distraction than an enhancement.

Having said that, the music itself is awesome. His lyrics are emotional, confessing, honest, questioning, and intelligent. I was moved by Surrender, touched by If You Go Before Me, and grooved undeniably to Holding On To You.

I'm still ready for more, TTD. Make it soon!

TTD's Vibrator is an absolutely magnificent exudation of the beautiful visionary that he is--a lyrical lesson in life. A dear friend of mine sent a dub of this album to me two years ago, and I've listened to it almost daily since. It is required listening for those in search of their own truth. I often wish I could send a copy to the whole world.

His lyrics....give birth to a whole gamut of emotions for me and coupled with wonderfully delicious music that is truly stirring to the senses, this man has easily become my favorite artist of all time. His words are poetic and juicy and palpable, at times sneaking upon you. To this day, I listen to his album and a verse will resound through me as if I haven't heard it before, giving me a much sought-after answer or thought to ponder. Obviously, I didn't "hear" it before.

TTD is hideously underrated and underappreciated. Those who cannot be confined in this world (or defined for that matter) usually are grossly disregarded. But I suspect, Mr. D'Arby is about "sparkle" in a major way. I eagerly await his next lesson.

I've been listening to TTD since he's graced us with his first gift of "The Hardline..". I am in awe of his beautiful, uncompromising talents and his willingnes to share it with all, still after all these years of being passed over in the industry. How amazing to be this talented and adored by many and still not given the msuical respect his beauty commands. Every cut on this album is completely soulstirring, and makes you take a look at yourself and life. He's made it tough for ordinary men to come romanitc, because his poetry ssems to have been told to him directly from above! Ahhhh, pure beauty this is, looking forward to the next..........buy it now--but beware---you may never look at your other music the same. Peace and Love.
