5.0 out of 5 stars As Good As Ever! July 18, 2005
Format:Audio CD
I bought this album as an audio cassette about 15 years ago. In truth, it was the devastatingly sexy picture of Simone on the cover that attracted me-- I hadn't heard her of her, or her music. But once I started listening, I fell in love. On the CD, you never get a sense of this, but on audio cassette or vinyl, it's very clear. The first side (first five songs) are about falling in love or being in love. The second side (the next five songs) are about love lost, betrayed, gone... Every time I go into a record store, I look for 'Vicio' in the Brazilian section, and it's never there. Finally, I ordered it used, here, and received a great copy. It's everything I remember: Sensual, sexy, sad, great... My favorite is the very first cut - "Eu Sei Que Vou Te Amar" (I know I'm Going to Love You). It's by Jobim, and accompanied solo by him on the piano. Simone's voice, and the sound of Portuegese on her lips are the soul of romance and sensuality. My second favorite is from the flip side, "Trocando Em Miudos" (Splitting Hairs), about breaking up with a faithless lover, and who takes-- and gives-- what back after a break up. And what romantic cannot love a song whose first line is, "Amar e sofrer" -- To love is to suffer... ? (From "Simples Carinho" (Simple Caress)) Simone has had a long and illustrious career, though mostly unknown in the US. She is a wonderful, no, fantastic talent. And this is simply the sexiest album ever made.

4.0 out of 5 stars Poetry set in music January 5, 2004
Format:Audio CD
This CD is not as esoteric as some regular customers might think. Anyone who appreciates a good vocalist in any language can fall in love with this CD. This is an essential Simone Album. She sings with very little acompaniment, almost acapella. My knowledge of Brazillian music is as limitted as my Portugues, but this doesn't really matter. The CD inserts has lyrics both in Portuguess and translated in English. The words will blow you away. Who else can transcend the myraid of romantic feelings like the Brazillians. In "Sue Corpo (Your Body)," she sings about how a lover's ultimate peace is achieved in the moments before, during and after making love. In "Me Chama(Call Me)" she begs for a lover to get in touch with her and compares her loneliness to the cold, wet weather outside. Now come on folks, you gotta be baited with lyrics like this. It's beautiful. The combination of Simone's tenor and the Sonnet like lyrics is unbeatable. My only complaint about this CD is the couple of songs in the end when Nasciemento joins in. It kinda ruined it for me. I wish it was all pure Simone. She could have carried this Album by herself. I don't know if CBS records was targeting the mono linguistic world of the Americas, but I wished they were more successful, I think this CD deserves an audience. So, come on, give it a try.

this is a total disappointment, sorry to say. I like the cover picture though.
my overall adoration for her and her singing will never wane, come what may!

3.0 out of 5 stars Different Slant August 11, 2012
By Evie
Format:Audio CD|Verified Purchase
I was under the impression that Simone was female, so of course I thought the sound would have been different. However, the music was very pleasant, and romantic. I was just a little confused, I guess.
