4.0 out of 5 stars Randy Weaver's political commentary, March 7, 2009
This review is from: Vicki, Sam, and America: How the Government Killed All Three (Paperback)
VICKI, SAM AND AMERICA:
HOW THE GOVERNMENT KILLED ALL THREE (2003)
by Randy Weaver

This is the second book from former Green Beret Randy Weaver. In his first book, Weaver described the Ruby Ridge incident in detail. This book is more about the aftermath and his opinions about the state of America today. It reads more like a collection of individual articles than a single narrative.

There is a forward by states' rights advocate Sheriff Richard Mack talking about how the book came about and some of his thoughts on the Ruby Ridge case. Mack also contributes a chapter on Vicki Weaver's family.

Randy Weaver writes about several hot button topics such as the United Nations, the Drug War and the IRS. In many of these cases he names people he respects for standing up against the government. One such individual is Michael New, who refused to wear the U.N. logo atop his head while serving in the U.S. Army. Another is Vernice Kuglin, who won a court case against the IRS. Kuglin is a former vice-chair of the Tennessee Libertarian Party.

One chapter addresses how the national security state has gotten out of control, citing the case of New Hampshire State Representative Howard "Crow" Dickinson being fined and threatened with jail for having a .38 caliber pistol in his bag at an airport. (Note: I believe that this chapter was written by Richard Mack since a similar article appeared on AuctionArms.) Weaver also writes that he feels like anybody who criticizes the government is labeled a conspiracy theorist and cites numerous cases where he believes actual conspiracies have occurred.

There are several chapters that deal with the legal cases after Ruby Ridge. One chapter is a tribute to the legendary lawyer Gerry Spence. Spence agreed to take Weaver's case for free and did not accept any compensation money from the government. Another chapter writes about the case Weaver and Spence tried to bring against Leon Horuchi, a government sniper at Ruby Ridge. Horuchi was also involved in the assault on the Branch Davidians.

There is not a lot of new information in this book, and many "patriot" readers will be familiar with the stories here. However it is interesting to see how a man whose family was murdered by the federal government sees the world, and where he sees himself in the scheme of things. Few have been through what Weaver have, but we could all learn something from his perspective.

Here are some of the books that Weaver references in his writings:

Bias by Bernard Goldberg
The Adventures of Jonathan Gullible by Ken Schoolhand
From Freedom To Slavery by Gerry Spence
The Sovereign Individual by Rees-Mogg & Davidson
Alliance by Gerald Lund
From Bordello to Ballot Box by Jessi Winchester
The Tyranny of Good Intentions by Roberts & Stratton
