Editorial Reviews

Robinson's self-titled RCA set followed just months after her debut. Riding the success of "Turn the Beat Around," Vicki Sue Robinson captured Robinson in fine form on the gospel-inflected "Should I Stay/I Won't Let You Go" and the heart-wrenching "Let Me Down Easy." Her second effort with Warren Schatz, the album also included a memorable cover of Bobby Womack's "Daylight" and more of the buoyant pop-disco from Robinson's debut on "How About Me" and "Something Like A Dream." This remastered set includes two single-edit bonus tracks.

This, VSR's second recording, comes to life for the first time on CD. I wish I could say the same about Never Gonna Let You Go which, though on CD, is sonically a dud (maybe the original recording was not so hot. I have a feeling that was the issue). But forget about that here. The CD sounds great, and the vocals come to life. Vicki was big on multiple background vocal tracks; here you can almost feel the space between them. Daylight is great, but this collection shows more of what Vicki had to offer with some nice ballads (Falling in Love the standout). You really haven't heard this record if you haven't heard this CD. Nice job, Sony.

I was thrilled when this was released! Her voice and phrasing are amazing. This entire album is a tease for the amazing amount of releases she would do later in her career. Her first was grammy nominated that year and awarded several Billboard awards that year.

Huge Vicki Sue fan. Met her multiple times. Her husband producer was awesome to me. He would email me, got me to opening night party after "Behind the Beat" hit on Broadway right before my beloved passed.

As a Vicki Sue fan, for years, it has so bugged me that everyone thinks "Turn" was here only entity, WRONG!

She was prolific, releasing about 40 tracks in her life. Do you all know that the Doublement gum (double your pleasure!) is Vicki? How about Haines underwear - Vicki. Folders good to the last drop - Vicki. Maybelline Vicki. NY Bell (Telephone) Vicki!

See sang background with Cher, Cyndi Lauer, and Michael Bolton to name a few.

My purpose, however here, is to the share the love:

Search this stuff -- it's all great Vicki Sue! She was so far from a one hit wonder -below are the rest of her gifts to us........
....
"Admit It" - 12"
"Summertime Fun" 12" Magnificent Vicki Sue!
"Grab Them Cakes" Wrestling album with Junk Yard Dog!
"This Love Is For Real" -her first CD. It was like Australia only - but her husband Bill Good, sent it to me.
"Baby Now That I Found You" -RCA 45 -- her debut before the "Never Gonna Let You Go "release Warrens production here is awesome!
Disco Spectacular - RCA she does "Easy to Be Hard"
"Hot Summer Nights" - Prelude 12"
"To Sir with Love"- Profile 12" (Riveting)
"Everlasting Love" Profile (great!

Once again Goldlegion did it again, Bringing back some of the best Disco classics.
Vicki Sue Robinson's sophomore set is the continuation to her debut "Never gonna let you go". The CD kicks off the the extended version of "Daylight" (the first single from the album). One of my favorites on this CD is "How about me". I really believe it could have been a huge hit with better promotion. "Falling in love" stands out also. I'm greatful to Goldlegion for adding the single mixes of "Daylight" and "Should I stay", Most Disco fans love the extended versions. I do too, however, I like the singles mixes better, You can put more on a CD comp. or ipod. The Extended mixes are great, but they take up alot of room. Thanks again to Goldlegion for bringing back Vicki Sue Robinson. Long overdue.

Congas, swirling strings, passionate backing chorus, throbbing bass... it must be Vicki Sue Robinson!
it is really a pleasure to encounter album recorded in the golden age of disco, the original artifact - not just some nostalgic pastiché,but the real thing - and surely Robinson's mid-1970s LPs are joy.

The album starts strongly with one-to punch of "Daybreak" and "Should I stay" medley following right after, two irresistible dance-floor stompers with some backing choruses almost frightening in their intensity. If you ask me,I would continue album in the same style and had it filled with celebratory dance songs completely, alas, someone has decided that we need ballads here so ballads we got and they are - there's no way to put it nicely - simply boring.Everything that sounds original and passionate on disco numbers is just mannered and annoying on ballads.

Robinson's disco albums all share same characteristics - songs are either hands-in-the-air disco affairs or agonizingly slow and overlong ballads. Skip the ballads and go for disco.
