I have other thermometers that I was using until one day they gave a normal reading and my daughter was burning up and I knew she had a fever. I used this thermometer, which confirmed that she did have a fever... so easy to use. Just put some vaseline on the end and you can not insert it too far. I think the package actually says it takes longer to get a reading than it really does... it was very fast! I have no problem buying more expensive products when they work, but don't waste your money on $50 thermometers... they are not accurate! This one is great and the doctors want you to take a rectal reading anyway!!!

I own this thermometer, the braun ear thermometer and a safety first thermometer. This one is by far the best. It is the perfect size and fit in your hand, and there is like no chance of inserting it too far. It gives a quick accurate reading and really just works so good. the safety first one works but is long and skinny, alittle scary putting in a babies behind! Ane I have to be honest I have never used the ear thermometer because generally the DR. wants a rectal because it is the most accurate and they say the ear thermometers are really hard to use, so I wouldn't recommend wasting the money on it. Get this one, you won't be sorry!

This is the best, fastest rectal thermometer on the market. It's accurate, safe (you literally can't insert it too far), and VERY fast. I've used five other rectal thermometers, some of which cost much more than this one, and I have to say that this one is the best. Look no further.

After 6 straight nights in the ER with our daughter having 104+ fevers we asked the nurse if we could check the accuracy of ours when they took her temp, it was exact. The hospital grade thermometer took longer and gave the same results. The Vicks Baby Rectal Thermometer was even used while she slept and it did not disturb her while we still received an accurate temp for her vital sign check.
Great product and recommend it to all, only wish it was more readily available especially overseas.

After our daughter was born, I discovered that the things I had worried about before she was born fit into three categories: a) this is a big deal that you didn't even know you'd have to worry about b) yes, this is a big deal and c) no, this is so not a big deal.

One of the worries in category c was "taking a rectal temperature." This was something I was dreading, and other people will pay lots of money for thermometers that will get you an accurate reading without sticking anything up your child's butt. The Vicks thermometer may be more expensive than other digital thermometers out there, but it is cheaper than those temporal artery thermometers, and it makes taking your child's temperature no big deal.

Initially, I thought that the biggest pro to this thermometer was its design, which makes it impossible to stick the thermometer in too far, even when you have a wiggly older baby who will not stay still. But recently, our daughter was sick and we needed to take her temperature, only to discover that we misplaced our Vicks thermometer and had to use a regular digital one. Only then did I appreciate how FAST you get a reading with the Vicks. It is so much faster than a regular thermometer. I did not realize how important this would be, but it is. Especially if your baby is old enough to get bored and not want to stay still.

I now buy this for my new mom friends, because it's something they don't realize they'll need. We are buying a new one to replace the one we can't find, but even if/when we find it, having 2 is helpful, so we don't have to use regular thermometers again.

We bought this after the Red Cross 5 second thermometer. The Vicks works much better--i.e. it works. I probably would have given it 4 stars if I had never used the Red Cross. The Red Cross has a flat base, so that when you set it down the probe is well off the table top. The Vicks rests unsteady on its rounded side so it can shift around and a dirty probe can touch the table or other things.

As a first-time mom, the thought of sticking a thermometer up my newborn baby's behind made me absoultely cringe!!! So I bought the standard digital thermometer, and went through about three of them before I realized that no matter which brand you buy, they don't give accurate readings! He was too small for the ear thermometer, but I've heard that those aren't the best either.

The design of this thermometer is genius... the probe is just the right size to ensure that you don't harm your baby. I feel 100% comfortable using this thermometer, and what's even better is that it's more accurate than all the others I've tried. Not only that, it takes his temp in about 10 seconds (beceause who has time to wait longer than that when you've got a squirmy baby)?

I would recommend this thermometer to anyone who has anxiety about taking a rectal temp... heck, I'd recommend it anyway because it's the most accurate one I've tried!

I don't have much to add over the other reviews here - but this thermometer is very fast, seems to be much more accurate (readings are consistent over multiple attempts), and our son doesn't even realize what we're doing. We were initially against the 'rectal' route, but that was mostly based on old prejudices against really long, really slow older models (that we grew up with).

This thermometer has a very short probe (no worries about going too far), and he has yet to even notice what we're doing. And it reads in 10 seconds or less, which is great because you're trying to get a temperature when he's screaming and crying. The armpit model we used before took up to 60 seconds, which is an eternity when he's thrashing and you're trying to hold the probe under his (thrashing) arm.

All in all, works fantastic, it's pretty cheap, and we don't have to dread getting a temp!

I'm a first time Mom, and as you can imagine, I was terrified to take my baby's temperature rectally but this product makes it so easy. It's made so you can't put it in too far. It's fast and accurate too.

I cannot believe I am reviewing a rectal thermometer, but it is that good. Having many kids, I have struggled with best ways to take temperature. For the older kids, I have settled on the ear thermometer as "good enough", but it really doesn't give accurate results on a baby. Rectal is the way to go, but babies (especially newborns) are so delicate that it can be hard to tell when the thermometer is far enough inside without hurting the baby.

This thermometer is a "no brainer". It is shaped to be easy to put inside the rectum while the baby is on his/her back. The button is easy to push, the display is clear, and the probe tip cannot go too far inside. Temperature is taken quickly as well.

For the price, I would recommend this to all new parents. Just be sure to keep it clean and buy some water-based lubricant for it.
