5.0 out of 5 stars somebody else's review, June 2, 2009
By
David (Pittsburgh, PA USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Victim of Space (Audio CD)
Noise, experimental avante extreme use of synths, guitars and female vocals. On this new release this Chicago female unit has diverged from their ear-splitting harsh noise freak-outs by employing halting often blippy synths or putting the noise guitar in front. Female vocals take forefront in places, but dont get too excited as the lyrics, when decipherable, are pure da-da meaninglessness. I consider this outfit to be right on the forefront of New Noise, right up there with Wolf Eyes. There is however, a spooky quality about this, and the female vocals could drop this into a bin including Jarboe, P-TV, Death in June, Coil, and Throbbing Gristle (though Esplendor Geometrico comes to mind in a big way too, as long as I'm dropping names). Though its the stuff of my dreams, you wont be hearing this while shopping at Borders very soon.

1) blippy and glitchy electronics in with searing noise, dynamics lend a musical quality, especially since the vocals are almost decipherable
2) noise guitar takes the forefront, vocs recede, just lovely
3) dreamlike harsh noise loops, insane echo and 'verb on the vocs, just a beautiful composition
4) sparser use of a variety of tones, sources, starts almost harpsichord-like, gets into some nice electronic loops
5) guitar and vocals take on forefront, strange looping quality
6) almost chill drone loops, watch out as they are so subsonic in places as to resemble dead air, great rhtymic nasty noise
7) "i see the candy on your face" da-da lyrics, clear and upfront, very strange with swirling synth noises, play along with Jarboe, other strange female weirdness
8) i'm a sucker for a looping low end, so this one gets me,
reminds me of Esplendor Geometrica crossed with Soviet France somehow.
