melodramatic, operatic 80's speed metal. clever songwriting, dynamic playing - occasionally brilliant. vocals can take some getting used-to, however once adjusted- talented & enjoyable. come back 80's metal... all is forgiven!

5.0 out of 5 stars Stronger than all February 11, 2007
Format:Audio CD
Heathen is one of the best thrash bands to have come out of the Bay area scene. These guys are so underated that its criminal. Exceptional talent through all of the songs, ripping solos and devistating riffs. The singer has one of the best, clean voices (not growling) in the genra. And if you like the high pitched screem thing then that tops it off. These guys be puttin shti like Metallica to shame. A true thrash fan needs this, and if the price has kept you from getting it, every penny would be worth it since this is priceless.

5.0 out of 5 stars Heathen ; "Victims Of Deception" June 28, 2004
Format:Audio CD|Verified Purchase
Heathen is bar none the best kept secret in Thrash Metal. If you listen to any kind of Metal, you must purchace this as soon as possible. It took me ten years to find this masterpiece on CD. I bought this on tape in the early 90's, and then someone stole it. It's now available on Amazon {THANK YOU}, so you better buy it right now....

If you thought Metallica was the best Thrash Metal band out of the SF Bay Area, think again. Heathen blows Metallica to shreads in my humble opinion...

"Victims" is like "Justice" on steroids, and it's so unfortunate that a great band like Heathen never got the recognition they so highly deserved. Buy it now!!! You can thank me later...

5.0 out of 5 stars One word- WOW! May 26, 2003
Format:Audio CD
Too bad the scale only goes to five stars... Up until a few days ago, I thought that bands like Metallica were as thrashy as they come. Now, since I've listened to these guys, thrash metal has taken on a more refined definition. Heathen combines some downright heavy thrash with Judas Priest's harmonizing guitars, booming drums and a Bruce Dickinson-like vocalist. However, it's not just mindless, blazing guitars, either. The lyrics are powerful and relevant to today's twisted society. "Hypnotized" condemns televangelists- "Fools give money to the church, to earn their place with God..." and "Morbid Curiosity" explores the media's attraction to death and suffering of other people. The songs have a good variation in their sound and the music changes pace constantly. For more intelligent thrash, buy this album. There's no dissapoinment involved, especially if you still think Kirk Hammett can play fast.

5.0 out of 5 stars You think you know thrash? June 30, 2008
Format:Audio CD
If you've yet to hear Heathen, then you know nothing about metal. I stumbled across them by accident, but I've been grateful ever since I've given this album a spin. From start to finish, Heathen never reliquishes their musical assault, utilizing elements that made extreme bands like Megadeth and Metallica popular, but that both bands had pretty much abandoned by the time this CD was recorded. While the songs may be lengthy, there is never a dull moment with enough collossal riffs and blinding solos to keep you listening to it for years.

5.0 out of 5 stars Thrash masterpiece! February 17, 2008
Format:Audio CD
This is one of best thrash metal album of all time, the band might be less less popular then the big four or testament & exodus but a band or album doesnt need to be popular to be good musically, this album proof that.

For those who like old school traditional thrash metal you can't go wrong with this one, the opening track is masterpiece just like battery or holy wars, the intro its typical old school thrash, started with acoustic then turn into a palm mute blasting riff that somehow will reminds you of metallica disposable heroes. If the riffing is closer to old metallica the vocal is much more similar to beladona of anthrax. For those who think this band is generic thrash band, you're wrong, there's great ballad on this album "prisoner of fate" and also great guitar instrumental track "guitarmony". Overall this is a very strong release by a none popular metal band and its truly underated.
