The base of this snap trap is made from Forest Stewardship Council-sourced wood harvested from environmentally-monitored forests. The wood has been kiln dried and will not warp. The traps metal pedal has four releases for greater success in catching rats. The trap has a copper-steel wire bow. Two springs are oil-tempered for efficiency.
For best results, bait the trap with a sticky substance. Rats are fond of peanut butter, fruit, meat, and cereal. Using several traps and placing them three feet apart in the rats foot path increases the chances of success. After catching a rat, Victor advises users to throw out the trap. For help setting the trap, keeping pets away from traps, and other pest control advice consult the Victor Web site. This item measures 6-13/16 by 3-7/16 inches, and weighs 1 pound. --Jessica Reuling

Kills Iraqi Rats Good,

This review is from: Victor M201 Rat Trap (Lawn & Patio)
I live and work in Iraq and let's say that conditions over here aren't the most sanitary. The rats here are 6+ inches, not including the tail! The little 3" traps just don't do the trick; I put some out and the next day they were all gone. I guess the rats are building a gym or something. The glue traps just kept the rats alive and meant I had to... uh... "deal" with them mafia style. Poison isn't so good either as the rats just eat and go off and die somewhere, leaving a dead rat body to find.Anyway, these things are no joke. Very sturdy and a wicked snap. Sounds like a gun going off when they snap closed. Don't know why they manufacturer recommends using them only once. I handle them with rubber gloves and haven't died yet, despite decreasing the rat population by seven with one trap.

Almost 4* 'cos it's scary to set,

The rats I've killed with these Victor traps have all looked happy. Their last meal must have tasted good... Then their skull is smashed in half. This is an effective trap which was almost 4* because they are so scary to set. The force exerted by the snap arm would break fingers - do doubt. They are however the most effective snap traps I have found.Just to prove I'm not affiliated with Victor at all, I can say that as long as you don't let the rat decompose on the trap (been there, done that) you can re-use these for a while (Victor says throw them away - I wonder why?) Buy a pair of industrial rubber gloves and disinfect them after every use. Death to vermin! Bait: peanut butter, dried apricots, fruit gums. Buy the real peanut butter because rats don't like sunpat (honestly). I don't know if they are connoisseurs of fruit/wine gums. Apricots go mouldy after a while but are very effective.

Fast Quick Simple, but messy,
By I had my one trap now for less than 24 hours and have caught two rats in my back yard. First rat made BEN look small, and second was about 1/4 lb. Rats are no fun, but baited traps are quick, easy, and cheap. I wore food handler gloves whenever handling the trap after a kill. Found that smooth peanut butter on both the hinge and spring pan before setting the trap worked. The trap was placed on my wooden fence on the cross supports where the rats were last seen. Would attach a video, but none of the rats have signed actor consent forms. Also if you are worried about pain death is in an instant due to the large spring, and there are no batteries to worry about going dead...
