Take back your yard with Victor Poison-Free Fly Magnet traps, which are designed to eliminate house flies, barn flies, bottle flies, and other outdoor pests. The flytraps are made using a patented bait formula that's been university tested to trap more flies than any other bait on the market, so you can entertain friends in the yard without fending off a barrage of insects. It's estimated that eliminating a single fly with the Fly Magnet can reduce the fly population by 150 to 500 flies per year.

Fly Magnet
The Fly Magnet makes it easy to trap and dispose of flies.

Easy to Use

Fly Magnet traps are a breeze to use. While many other fly traps on the market require you to cut or assemble the trap, the Fly Magnet comes fully assembled--no cutting required. The Fly Magnet also comes with a hanging mechanism, another unique feature that most disposable bag traps can't claim. All you have to do is add water and hang the trap.

The Fly Magnet takes the mess out of fly trapping by including a simple snap-on top for easy disposal. Traditional disposal requires you to deal with the hassle of unsightly and smelly flies within the trap. The snap-on top, by contrast, lets you seal the trap in seconds and place it in the trash. No mess and no exposure to dead flies.

Locating the Trap

Because the patented bait is so strong, it's important to find just the right location for the trap to create a "fly-free" environment. Look for locations along the perimeter of your property, where the trap will draw flies away from you and your guests. For best results, hang the trap from branches or stakes 24 inches or less from the ground and keep the water level at the fill line at all times. Keep in mind that flies prefer warm, bright, and calm areas. Also note that it may take several hours for the bait to be fully activated when wet.

Great smelling if you are a fly!
Steve J.
If left in the garage, or even worse in the house, eventually these locations will smell just as bad as the inside of my envelope did.
J. Sullivan
Second one, lasted 2 weeks and trapped about 20 flies.

Like the first reviewer, I thought it wasn't working for the first two days, so much so that the "fly trap report" became a family joke. Turns out the "lure" material had to have a little time to work itself up to smelling like--um--like something that flies would like? Goes without saying that this isn't a smell we humans would like, so don't hang it near or in your house. We have ours in the garbage area, where it works wonderfully. It isn't a strong smell, but it is noticable if you are within, say, three feet. And occasionally I get a whiff of it on the breeze. I'm happy to live with that minor inconvenience for the number of flies it collects, literally hundreds in a short time.

I purchased this item to put near my chicken coop. At first I thought it wasn't working. No action for a few days. Within a week the thing was half full. It's so easy to use. Add water and hang it up. The best part is that there are no poisons to deal with and the chickens won't be eating poisoned flies. Excellent product!

I have been using the competitors brand of fly trap for a year now, and altho it catches flies very well, it's rather ugly and it smells.

So, I jumped at the chance to try this product. Well, it looks rather attractive, in fact you might not know it's a fly trap. And, yes, it uses an odor attractant, so it doesn't smell nice, but it's much nicer than the competitor's product (which can stink up to 10' away).

But, my other fly trap (hung at the same time) is chock full of dead bugs, whilst this has only a few.

So, if esthetics and smell are critical to you, get this. But if you just want to kill flies without any dangerous sprays or poisons, get the other (disposable) trap. Just hide it, and make sure it's not where you can smell it.

This really works. We were overcome with the little black deer flies that bite! We put up two of these fly traps and, within a week, most of the flies had been caught or disappeared allowing us to enjoy our garden. However, after a short amount of time these traps stink. But, that is the lure that attracts the flies. So it's best not to put them too close to a sitting area. You'll be amazed at how many flies are trapped. And, it has no effect on bees or other beneficial insects.

THIS IS AN EDITED - REVIEW

ORIGINAL - Maybe I have the wrong kind of flies, but after a solid week, I captured a total of three flies and one moth while this hung in my back yard. Meanwhile, in the other part of the yard, they annoyed the heck out of us. The flies were not attracted or killed, and I had to hold my nose anytime I got near it.

NEW - Since my original review we have had several rainstorms and lots of activity in our back yard. This week I went out to take down the Fly Trap and dispose of it and was stunned.

First of all, either time or the rainstorm has dissipated the odor that was so objectionable. But second, in spite of the fact that I couldn't smell a thing, flies were buzzing around this, and it was filled with flies, drowned flies, buzzing flies, and flies crawling in to enjoy the feast with the rest of them.

I don't know what the difference was, but a couple of weeks or so after I hung it up, it did finally work.

I placed my star rating at 4, because the original odor was so bad and it did not work for awhile. But it does work.

We hung our Fly Magnet next to where we keep our garbage cans and we got our first fly within hours and in days, the trap was filled with not only flies but other insects like bees and moths.

You fill the trap with water and hang it away from your home because it does lure the flies in so you don't want to hang this where you and your family hang out at because you would probably end up with more flies in the area. It is recommended that you hang it within a couple feet of the ground, which we did.

While it does work, I have to take in consideration the price. I'm not sure if it's worth the price for a few dozen less flies. But as the manufacturer points out if you eliminate female flies then you are really eliminating maybe hundreds of flies. I think you have to take in consideration your fly problem versus the price.

Update to my review:

After another week or so, I checked on our fly magnet. A raccoon or some animal had gotten into the bag chewing at it. I think it was attracted by the smell. It has a fishy smell from the attractant that is included in it. The animal had chewed through and all the water had run out and live flies were hovering all over the ground where the water had run out. I was surprised at how many dead flies were left in the now emptied of water bag. We had a good 2 inches full of flies.

My thoughts was that the bag really did work and I wanted to get more but I would not hang them close to the ground as is instructed. I will definitely hang up out of the reach of animals and hope for as good of results again as we got with it when we had it closer to the ground.

I tried this flytrap because my store was out of the Rescue brand (Sterling NFT-D Disposable Fly Control TrapWith Attractant). This Victor has not caught one fly in four days, while my existing Rescue trap has and is catching 50+ flies per day. Yes the Rescue does smell bad - you have to put it 10+ feet from your porch, but it works! I place one in the trees approx. 20' away on 'each' side of the house. I recommend buying the Rescue flytrap - Amazon search "rescue fly trap".
