I had planned to check out this book when I had a little time in a bookstore but instead was surprised with it as a gift. To say it's wonderful is understatement! The photographs are reminiscent of the original VICTORIA magazine under the helm of Nancy Lindemeyer and the author did a fabulous job of assembling the most lovely and beautiful photographs to help you create a splendid holiday for yourself and family.Full of ideas, nicely organized chapters, and definitely one of those books you will refer to again and again. My copy already has a bunch of little post-it flags to alert me to be sure to refer to these ideas! The only thing a little strange is the size of the book: it's nicely thick but it's a short book (only about 6" tall), but wide - not the usual size for holiday decorating books. Don't let that deter you though - it's simply an outstanding book that should be on the bookshelf of every Christmas affectionado! If you need a jumpstart to your holiday enthusiasm this year, this book will not let you down. I'm planning to buy several copies to give as Christmas presents - being sure to deliver them at Thanksgiving so my friends can delve in and be inspired immediately!

The "ideas" in this book are pretty lame, especially since most of them are just reincarnations of previous ideas. "Place a wreath on a door. Place a wreath on a window. Put wreaths on ALL the doors! Put wreaths on All the windows! Make the wreath plain. Make the wreath fancy. Hang the wreath with a ribbon. Use greenery to create the wreath." All of these count as different "ideas," and wow, we're up to 8 already. It just goes on like that. "Decorate with a lantern. Put the lantern where people can see it. Put a ribbon on the lantern. Put some greenery on the lantern. Put a ribbon AND greenery on the lantern!" All of those count as 5 unique ideas. Plus, some of the ideas just don't make sense. "Wrap first edition hardback books in pretty fabrics, and then put them in the snow." What?

I bought this book for my daughter because she is now a mother and is expecting her second baby. I brought her up with crafts and always made a Christmas decoration each year. I know she will enjoy this book and be delighted when she opens it on Christmas Eve and will spend each year using the book for ideas.I rate this book myself with four stars and believe anyone interrested in old fashion style buy this one.

A bit of a disappointment coming from the Editors of Victoria magazine. Lots of wonderful photos, but little else. I think the older and out of print Victoria Christmas books are a far better example of what Victoria magazine can produce. This book is very nice, but there were few directions on how to create certain items and while the book could be considered more of a photo album of ideas, it fell a little flat in my humble taste. Unlike the other Victoria Christmas books, I will not likely turn to this book for future ideas.

This book was what I was looking for. Many years ago I read a Victoria book from the library. It was simply glorious but I had to return it. Now thanks to Amazon, I can own my own books. What a joy. The only problem I found is that if you don't own a big beautiful home, which I don't (a four room apartment in the City), the ideas for the mantle place are a little out of my reach. Maybe someday in the near future, I will own my own Victorian mansion. LOL

This is a smaller size book that has numbered ideas that are some of the most beautiful from my collection of Christmas books. I used several this year. Simple but stand outs.
