4.0 out of 5 stars WOW! I'M IMPRESSED!!
This was actually quite a good album, not that I doubted Victoria's abilities, but I hadn't gotten to hear enough of her before to make any accurate pre-judgements. It's too bad it wasn't released here in the U.S, but considering the un-popularity of the Spice Girls over here, I don't know if it would necessarily do that well.
This album, as I said, is great, and is...

2.0 out of 5 stars Solo Album
When Spice Girls broke up, I was a little bit sad although I didn't have any albums or singles they have made. It was Helsinki's gig which was their last one all together (Geri, Emma, Mel C, Mel B, and Victoria). Geri's and Emma's solo projects have been quite good and Mel C had a good first album and disappointing second album. But Mel B's and Victoria Beckham's (before...

This album, as I said, is great, and is more pop-with-an-R&B-edge than Mel B's which was just straight R&B (also recommended.)
Though this album does have a relatively similar sound for all the songs, it is a catchy feel-good sound that will always have you singing along. (I'm down with the vocodor!)
These are the tracks that, to me, stand out the most:
1/ I'm Not Such An Innocent Girl: Which of course is the snappy debut single which is just chock full of adittude and has sort of a flowing, breezy disco sound to it.
2/ Girlfriend: just a fun, likeable, danceable song that you're guarenteed to enjoy, like at a club or something.
3/ I.O.U: a very sweet ballad for her husband. But before you gag at the word ballad, let me tell you, she makes the R&B ballad something creative to enjoy, as opposed to all that "slow-jam" nonsense, that makes you either want to hide under the couch, smash the radio, or fall asleep whenever you hear it, and makes it, well, what can I say; good.
4/ Midnight Fantasy: Very much like her work with the Spice Girls, only this has a bit more of HER flavour. It's hard to explain. Very good.
5/ I Wish: Great twist on R&B, with some real funky adittude!!
GIRL POWER!
6/ Whatcha Talkin' Bout: Another cool song with a lot of adittude, and a bit more of an interestingly subtle groove, whatever you want to make of that statement.
7/ And finally "Every Part Of Me": An endlessly sweet and tear inducing ballad dedicated to her son, Brooklyn and even includes some of his cute vocalizations! If you aren't moved by this one...I don't know?!
Though all of the songs on this album are great and fit in in their own way, and show great adittude, I wanted to pick some of the big standouts to give you an idea of the real treat you're in store for if you buy this album.
So please do. You surely won't be disappointed.
RECOMENDED!!

4.0 out of 5 stars This Album Has A Mind of It's Own!!!, July 28, 2002
This review is from: Victoria Beckham (Audio CD)
Victoria Beckham is the last of the Spice Girls to release her solo album offering several multi-genre tracks. After being the voice that no one ever heard in the worlds best selling group, Victoria finally unleashes an album that is superb, showing that she has probably one of the best voices out of all of the members from the Spice Girls. It's a sad lose that Virgin Records dropped her before letting her music reach the US. With this album, Victoria offers great ballads and an abundant load of great danceable, R&B influenced pop songs.

Track Highlights

1.) Not Such An Innocent Girl - The beat to this song sounds like it came out of the Destiny's Child vault of beats, but yet it still has it own original sound. This song is dance friendly with its beat and sexual lyrics. This was the first single from Victoria's album and the video for is fantastic.

2.) A Mind Of Its Own - The lyrics to this power ballad are a bit generic and mediocre. However, this song is extremely catchy and the lyrics will grow on you. Victoria's vocals could have been a bit better but this is still a pretty fun track to listen to. This track was good enough to make the cut for Victoria's second single.

3.) That Kind Of Girl - This track is drenched with a mid-tempo R&B beat. This track is somewhat of a ballad but it's a bit faster. The lyrics could be better but they aren't too shabby. Victoria's voice sounds beautiful in this track, I guess she's just "That Kind Of Girl"

4.) Like That - This is an up-tempo track featuring an R&B/Pop beat. This track sounds somewhat reminiscent of the Spice Girl's track "Holler", however, I think this track is more creative. Victoria's vocals have that transformed, robotic like sound when it comes to the chorus but when it's back to the rest of the song her vocals simply sound beautiful.

5.) Girlfriend - This song also features an R&B sound but I think it leans more to the sound of pop. This song is pretty up-tempo and fun to listen to being that it has a great chorus and sexy lyrics. Victoria's vocals are extremely aggressive and confident in this song.

6.) Midnight Fantasy - This track is one of those ballads over a dance beat and with this song it simply works. Victoria's vocals make the lyrics of this song sound so sexual and surreal.

7.) I.O.U. - This song is a beautiful ballad and it's kept pretty simple. I think this is by far the best ballad on this album, not because it has a great beat or that she sounds great but because the lyrics are so true and beautiful. All that you do, Victoria owes it to you.

8.) No Trix, No Games - This track is like that of track four, they sound somewhat similar and the meaning is somewhat the same. I think the chorus to this song could be just a bit more creative but it still sounds pretty good.

9.) I Wish - This song was rumored to be the third single from Victoria's album before Virgin Record's dropped her. This song is definitely worthy of being a single and the chorus sounds so beautiful and catchy. The beat to the song is very Destiny's Child like and the lyrics even sound like them. Victoria's voice sounds fantastic and passionate in this track.

10.) Watcha Talkin' Bout - This track has an R&B sound and the song is a bit mid-tempo. The lyrics to this song are pretty creative and the chorus is pretty catchy as well.

11.) Unconditional Love - This is yet another ballad and both the lyrics and beat sounds pretty generic. The only thing good about this track is that Victoria's voice sounds beautiful.

12.) Every Part Of Me - This ballad has a baby giggling at the beginning of it giving away the fact of this song obviously being dedicated to her child. The lyrics to this track are pretty good but I think this track could have had more of a ballad sound to it.

This album shows that Victoria hasn't forgotten her roots from the Spice Girls but yet she is moving forward with her talent. If you want to see Victoria on a different level other than that of the Spice Girls than I suggest you check this album out.

5.0 out of 5 stars She work's hard for being known for her own music, December 14, 2001
This review is from: Victoria Beckham (Audio CD)
After being ind the background of the Spice Girls, Victoria is the last to release a solo album. I must say that I'm impressed she can write songs and she can sing, although her voice isn't nsomething special, but she remains to keep it clean, only on one song her voice fades a bit ( Unconditional Love ).
I was one of the first to buy this album ind Denmark, and I must say that she's really worth the money. The single from this album ( Not Such An Innocent Girl ), is great but my favorites songs is, That Kind Of Girl, Midnight Fantasy, No Trix, No Games and I Wish. On this album Victoria has really done a nice work of mixing, pop/ rock and a lot of Rnb sounds. I Wish when I first heard this songs I thought this must be the latest work from Destiny's Child, but it was Victoria Beckham, I must say she really surprised me. I don't usual listen to pop music, before I bought this album I used to listen to Grace Jones and Tracy Chapman but know I hear Victoria's album all day.
Not Such An Innocent Girl: The first single from this album, great vocal and joyable sound.
A Mind Of Its Own: A good touching song about love.
That Kind Of Girl: Also a great love song.
Like That: Great but, not as great as the others.
Girlfreind: She also could have called this song: I Want What She's Got.
Midnight Fantasy: Uhh a fantastik night loving song, for the lonely ones.
I.O.U: I saw her singing live whit this song, I think that this song is deticated to David Beckham. ( No I Know it's made for him ).
No Trix & No Games: A great girl power song, this song is really hot stuff.
I Wish: A song about a woman who likes a man but she can't tell him HOW SAD.
Watcha Talkin'Bout: not really that good. ( Sorry Vicky )
Unconditional Love: Hmmm a lovely song, but her voice is not as clean and clear.
Every Part Of Me: Ohhhhhh a song about her lovely boy Brooklyn.
At last I would like to say: David your lucky to have this wonderful woman and a beautiful child, treat them good. My respect to Victoria, David and Brooklyn.

5.0 out of 5 stars FANTASTIC SPICE!, November 24, 2002
By A Customer
This review is from: Victoria Beckham (Audio CD)
After reading all the great reviews (and some down right rotten!), I decided to purchase the album! And I have to say - It Is A Great Album!

The album is a perfect blend of R&B and pop and is so underrated! Some of the tracks on this CD, J.Lo would love to get her hands on!

The album starts out on a low point - NOT SUCH AN INNOCENT GIRL - is a tired `been done before' pop song, the lyrics are witty and her vocals are really good, especially the high notes, plus she does all the backing vocals on this single. But the production is a bit messy. (6 / 10)

A MIND OF ITS OWN - this is a bit better, a track which is quite original, with its talked parts and harmonies. This shouldn't have been a single, but its quite good anyway. (7 / 10)

THAT KIND OF GIRL - Getting better! This track is very chilled out, and her vocals really shine on this song. Very R&B and could have been a single. (9 / 10)

LIKE THAT - This song is massive! It's starts out as a Sisqo-type song with an orchestra, and then a shuffling urban beat kicks in. Vic's vocals are relaxed in the verses and the bridge is catchy then she bursts out in an attitude packed chorus! This could have been a huge worldwide hit! (9.5 / 10)

GIRLFRIEND - Another wicked R&B song, similar to an old Pink song with its opera feel and hard beats, the song goes into garage towards the end, pure class! (10 / 10)

MIDNIGHT FANTASY - An OK song, a bit tacky, a bit too poppy, but a nice garage feel and very seductive vocals, this could be a Kylie Minogue song, but Victoria does it better. Not a fave. (7 / 10)

I.O.U - A nice balled, with an R&B beat. Nice vocals and very heartfelt, could have been a single. (8 / 10)

NO TRIX, NO GAMES - Produced by Christina Aguilera's producers, very cool track and trancy-like vocals from Vic, could be a single. Good pop & R&B song.
(8 / 10)

I WISH - THE BEST SONG ON THE ALBUM! Very R&B with hard beats, the most hardest, edgiest song by any Spice Girl. Produced by Soulshock & Karlin (Whitney, Toni, Destiny's Child, Usher), this song was made for Victoria to sing. This was supposed to be the 3rd single off the album, WHAT A BIG MISTAKE VIRGIN MADE! This would have blown J.Lo outta the water! (10 / 10)

WATCHA TALKIN' `BOUT? - Another Soulshock & Karlin song, all about Geri Halliwell. Very relaxed R&B number with very soulful vocals (she shines the most on this song) and it has the best intro ever! (9.5 / 10)

UNCONDITIONAL LOVE - Produced by Rhett Lawrence (Mel C's never be the same again), a wonderful tear-jerking song, very dramatic and sweet! (8 / 10)

EVERY PART OF ME - Very sweet, nice melody, with Dr Dre style hard beats! Victoria is the best singer outta the Spice Girls at this point! Her singing is simply FANTASTIC! (8.5 / 10)

Overall a very, very entertaining album. Victoria has a very rich voice, better than Kylie's (what's so good about her anyway??) If Vic has all the right breaks she will be a huge solo star!!!

Great news! Victoria has signed a new record deal with Telstar Records, home of Craig David, Mis-Teeq & BB Mak! Hopefully she will have huge success! All the best Vic, u deserve it!

5.0 out of 5 stars Posh bares her soul!, January 29, 2005
This review is from: Victoria Beckham (Audio CD)
It's been almost 4 years since this CD was released yet its Miss Posh's only one to date...sadly. You see the Brits are jealous of her...VERY jealous...she married David Beckham so no one can blame them yet still their a bit harsh!

Victoria did make another attempt at her solo career in 2003 with Let your head go/This Groove yet apparently hitting #3 is flopping nowadays in the UK *rolls eyes* oh well on to the review!

This CD is the epitome of pop right before it went bad. Ya know when hip hop, rock, and 'punk' all mated and made the bastard child we now know as 'popular music' of 2004 hopefully not 2005. Not only does this CD have the sounds of good ol pop but it also has something a bit more intimate: Victoria's soul.

Now Im still waiting for my copy of 'Learning to fly' to come (I hate you Wal Mart!) but Victoria has said herself in interviews and such that this CD reflects a lot of her, and it shows! Maybe thats why it wasnt as well recieved as other solo Spice projects: If it speaks to me it apparently speaks to no one else in the general populace!

'Victoria Beckham' kicks off with the 'catchy for a short while but then annoying' 'Not such an innocent girl'. It was her first single and I love it and all but ever since I found out it was intended for Willa Ford well...I just...cant...

The next track is the more 'spoken word' 'A mind of its own'. BRILLIANT! Very sweet, vulnerable, and true. 'That kind of girl' kicks off her 'to David haha to rest of you cuz I have him' songs. Its really sweet none the less...the type of sweet ballad that could end a good romance comedy movie.

'Like that' goes back to the 'Not such an innocent girl' vibe and like the first its nice but gets old quickly...its never spoken to me...maybe it will someday. 'Girlfriend' finally gets the 'fast song' vibe and does it RIGHT i.e. you dont tire of it. The only problem here is it goes along the lines of the Spice Girl's 'Weekened Love' i.e. its great BUT the lyrics make no freakin sense what so ever! One minute she's saying 'look dont be calling me cuz you find my # thats his fault not mine' THEN she tries to say 'sorry he wants me BACK' insinuating that she had him before...listen to the song its kinda puzzling...but still enjoyable and catty which well just makes it brilliant!

'Midnight fantasy' is one of the faster tracks before the 'this is me' songs kick in. Nice and very 'Girlfriend' but less confusing. 'I.O.U.' is one of the better tracks on the whole CD! Its so sweet...honestly if your very bitter this CD is hard to listen to at times.

'No trix no games' gives us a small interlude of fastness before they slow it down again *yet* it stays with the 'this is me' vibe. It tells of a girl who may hide herself to the world and usually does to men too but to this certain love she wont...

'I wish' is one of the more meainful songs. This one has the confusing 'Girlfriend' problem...either this girl in the song is a tease or shes just like me and scared out of her wits of men...either way it could confuse the normaler people of the world.

'Whatchu talkin bout' is rumored to be written about Miss Ginger Spice though thats never been confirmed...listen to it the song does scream 'BETRAYER SOCIAL CLIMBER WANNABE!'

'Unconditional Love' is much like 'I.O.U.' in the sappy true to self songs area. So sweet! A hard song to listen to when bitter or hurt though...

'Every part of me' is a song dedicated to her then only son (shes pregnant with her 3rd now) Brooklyn. Sweet but eh boring way to end a 'true to me' fanatastic pop CD.

Overall a great millenuim pop piece and a great CD for the little odd girls everywhere! Maybe we're not so odd afterall...after all one of us snagged David Beckham...mmm...

5.0 out of 5 stars Track by track review!!, March 27, 2007
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Victoria Beckham (Audio CD)
Here I will rate each song from 1-10 (10 being the best 1 being the worst) and then explain why and maybe a little information about the song!!

1. Not Such An Innocent Girl (8/10)
Catchy but only after listening to it a few times! The video for this song is awesome, and her voice is really pretty in this song. Its like she's really trying to get the point through! Her first single peaking at #6 in the UK.

2. A Mind Of It's Own (9/10)
Her voice at it's best. Beautiful song. The only reason it's not a perfect is because some of the lyrics don't make sense...but the rest...is just...breathtaking!! Her second, and last single from this album peaking at #6 in the UK.

3. That Kind Of Girl (7/10)
Nice song. Not perfect. Her voice is very smooth and romantic here. Worth listening to a few times. In this song she says 'my affection AIN'T something you can buy' but when you listen super carefully, it still sounds just like she is saying 'my affection IS something you can buy'. Wierd, huh? Song about true love. Muuuushy!

4. Like That (9/10)
The 'naughty' sounding violins at the beginning make this song irresistable! The chorus has them too! She has girl power in this song. It's a cool song.

5. Girlfriend (10/10)
One of the two too good to be true songs on this album. Fast paced. The backround music is so......COOL!! In this song: Victoria gets a call from a girl who found Victoria's number in her boyfriend's pants. She accuses victoria of staeling her boy friend but Victoria says that her man was hitting on her AL:L last night and that she should be questioning her boyfriend, not VB!!

6. Midnight Fantasy (8/10)
Song about *cough* sex *cough*. Sort of boring but catchy enough for an 8.

7. I.O.U (4/10)
Every album has it's weak point, and this is it for Victoria's first album. Song about love between her and her husband. i feel like she just needed a song dedicated to him on her album, so she just made up a few lyrics in a couple of minutes and put them in there so her husband would be happy. Not a good song.

8. No Trix. No Games (9/10)
Wow. Thats all i can say. WOW! the 'talking' (not singing) that she does in this song makes her sound so posh. Gotta luv it! Song about learining how to get guys...

9. I Wish (10/10)
This is the other too good to be true song on this album. She SHOULD HAVE RELEASED IT!!!!! She would have gotten so much more credit if she had released this. This song is about her wanting a guy SOOO bad but, she knows it's not right to give it all away on the first night, so she is hoping he will still like her is she isn't a slut. Thsi song is awesome. You will listen to it over and over again forever and ever.

10. Watcha Talkin' Bout (5/10)
The beginning is kind of weird. Boring song. About nothing much. She tried too hard to make this catchy so it messed up. not much else I can say.

11. Unconditional Love (7/10)
In the beginning she says 'you can give me diamonds' but it sound like she says 'you can get mcdonalds'. STRANGE!!!! Okay song, I guess.

12. Every Part Of Me (6/10)
Violins in this song ruin it. but the baby laughs in the beginning and end are laugh. it's about her son 9or daughter) I think. Cute song. maybe I would like it better if i listened to it some more.......

Hope you liked my review! i kind of got lazy at the end, so it might not be as descriptive as I hoped, but I tried my best! Hope it helps. And overall, this album gets an (8.5/10) from me. Really good. It's a MUST BUY!

5.0 out of 5 stars Great!, January 19, 2005
By
Viki (Las Vegas, NV USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Victoria Beckham (Audio CD)
So, Victoria finally scores her own solo, and the outcome was great! I always thought that I never heard her voice during any of the Spice Girls songs and she only sings when the girls are all singing together, and back then, I thought that she really wanted to shine, but didn't get a chance...and that she probably wasn't as much of a good singer as the other girls...how wrong was I? She totally knows how to sing, and her smash hit, "Not Such an Innocent Girl" stuck in my head for a long while. Too bad I don't get to buy this CD since I am in U.S., but if I get any chance of going to Europe, I am so getting it...I don't care if I have to spend a thousand dollars airline ticket just to buy a CD!

5.0 out of 5 stars "Every Part of Me" Loves This Album!, May 25, 2003
By
Katie (Montgomery Village, MD, USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Victoria Beckham (Audio CD)
I'll admit it, I initially bought this album because Victoria (a.k.a. Posh Spice) is David Beckham's wife. I had heard "Not Such An Innocent Girl" before and really liked the song. When I got the album, I mostly listened to the first track (and first single off of it). Little did I know, what a spectacular, honest, and fun album it really was. It took me awhile to get used to some of the songs. Now I have listened to all the tracks multiple times and I can truly say, Victoria Beckham is extremely talented and her first solo album reflects it. I love, love, LOVE all of the songs. They are just phenomenal, with great beats, great lyrics, and GREAT singing. I think Victoria put a ton of effort into this album and it shows. Many of the artists that we know here in the U.S., are extremely unoriginal in what they sing and what they sing about. On VB, not only are the songs spectacular, but they actually have meaning. As I said before, I completely adore all of the songs but perhaps my favorite is "Like That". It's just such a catchy song, with a good beat and clever lyrics. I also love "Midnight Fantasy"... God I love all of them! I think the record label made a mistake not releasing it in America. I think that this album is more U.S.-oriented than Forever by the Spice Girls. Songs such as "Like That", "A Mind of It's Own", and "I Wish" would have made great singles here. I tried "A Mind of It's Own" out on a couple of my friends and for the rest of the evening, they were humming it. From the sweet ballad "Every Part Of Me" dedicated to her son, Brooklyn, to danceable tracks such as "Whatcha Talkin' About" and "Like That", this album just explodes with energy and creativity. Victoria's true potential just jumps out on this record. I continue to enjoy this album beyond belief months after purchasing it and I am looking forward to Victoria's sophomore album!

5.0 out of 5 stars Best import buy ever!!, January 25, 2003
This review is from: Victoria Beckham (Audio CD)
Victoria Beckham has made quite possibly the best euro-pop album ever. Regardless of if you're a spice girl fan or not, the catchy songs included on her debut album will be stuck in your head for weeks to come.

track 1.
This glossy pop song is a great opener. it engages the listener into well-written pop extasy.

track 2.
mind of its own is a homey type song that still delivers a great chorus and great verses.

track 3.
i love this song. it's truly what victoria is all about

track 4.
like that is a more r&b attempt that works out perfectly with great lyrics.

track 5.
girlfriend is one of the best tracks on the cd. it is another r&b track that glides effortlessly between hip hop and pop.

track 6.
this is another solid song from victoria that'll be stuck in your head for weeks to come

track 7.
track 7 is a sweet love song that i adore.

track 8.
this is another r&b track that is so perfectly put together . . .

track 9.
not to be redundant, but this is another great song!!

track 10.
Watcha talkin' bout is a really good song that i'm pretty sure is slamming geri halliwell, but don't quote me on that.

track 11.
this is the best track on the entire cd!! unconditional love is a retro love song that is so unbelievably magnificant!!

track 12.
every little part of me is a song victoria wrote for her son, brooklyn and includes his voice. it's really sweet.

so from track 1 to 12, you'll be wishing the cd will never end. but don't worry, 'cos there's always repeat.

5.0 out of 5 stars Best solo-Spice album yet!, March 2, 2002
This review is from: Victoria Beckham (Audio CD)
This album is truly a revelation! Even if you think you don't like the Spice Girls you really couldn't fail to appreciate this album. It is very easy listening, with most tracks produced with a real pop/r'n'b vibe. I wouldn't say this about many albums but I really do not get bored listening to this album... it's on constant repeat!

The album opens with the UK top 10 hit "Not Such An Innocent Girl". This track is one of the few tracks on the album that Victoria did not write. It is a real taster for the album. A mid-tempo track (a consistent theme for this album) that begins with Victoria politely telling us that "first impressions can be wrong", and so they can be! The next track is the 2nd single "A Mind Of It's Own" which begins with a laid-back spoken rap and builds up to a catchy chorus. "That Kind Of Girl" is an up-tempo ballad which talks of Victoria's desire for simple, uncomplicated love. "Like That" is Victoria in defensive mode. Here she is helping out a friend who is being treated badly by her man. "Girlfriend" is one of my favourite tracks on the album, co-written with Dane Bowers. Clever lyrics about the telephone confrontation between Victoria and a girl who has found Victoria's telephone number in her boyfriend's Calvin Kleins. "Midnight Fantasy"... probably speaks for it's self! One of the more uplifting tracks on the album. "IOU" is a touching ballad about Victoria's beautiful husband, England and Manchester United soccer star, David Beckham. "No Trix, No Games" is one of the more bland tracks on the album with Victoria telling the listener of her power over men... or maybe one man in particular! The 3rd single "I Wish" is about Victoria attempting to show restraint when it came to one of her first encounters with David. "Watcha Talkin' Bout" is my favourite track on the album. The track is about Geri Halliwell and her supposed new found fakeness. "Unconditional Love" is Victoria's statement about love. Give her fast cars, pearls, money... all she really wants is to see the love in her child's eyes. Speaking of Brooklyn, the last track "Every Part Of Me" even contains his laughing and giggling. A beautiful ballad about her love for Brooklyn and how she literally sees herself in him and what he does.

A truly wicked album which should have sold a lot more than it currently has. A wider release (there was no worldwide release at the time of writing this review) would see the album hopefuly get the exposure it deserves. Buy it now! You will not be disapointed!
