Victoria Falls and Surrounds, The Insider's Guide, by Ian Michler is a large format travel guide to help anyone traveling to Zambia, Botswana, of Zimbabwe to plan their trip, especially including Victoria Falls and a Safari. The book gives details of history of each area, legends, animal and plant life, maps, history and culture of the people, arts and crafts, and music. You will also find recommendations for guides, places to eat, where to stay, and what places are just tourist traps. This guide is not only excellent for planning your trip, but also a beautiful keepsake of any trip to this area of Africa, with gorgeous photos and slick pages. You will not want to pack this book because it is a bit too large, but you will treasure it after your trip as the perfect memories captured.

A beautiful book and the photography is stunning. If I were to have bought this book for the photography alone, I would have been more than satisfied, but I didn't. I bought this book for information on an upcoming trip to sub saharan Africa, with Victoria Falls on the Zimbabwe side as part of the trip agenda.

While there are some interesting tidbits of info on all of the surrounding areas, it lacks the depth needed for well informed travel. Hotels, eating, culture, comprehensive maps, car rentals, guides, dangers, brushed upon at best, or not even mentioned.

Pretty to look at....but that's about it.
