Victoria Spivey at her best...,
By ab (ca) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Victoria Spivey 2 1927-1929 (Audio CD)
This is some of the best Spivey available on CD! Victoria Spivey was one of the best blues singer fom the 20's with a highly appealing voice, she was more of a torch singer then a "blues" singer, however she's a wondeful singer. This cd is where to start. Another good record is "Songs we tought your mother" featuring Spivey, Alberta Huner, and Lucille Hegiman in the ealy 60's Spivey sounded better then ever at 55.

If anyone could claim to be one of the strongest voices for women, she would be Victoria Spivey and her piano. When one listens to Spivey's piano music, one can hear the future barrel-house piano of the nineteen-fifties. This is not music for the faint of heart!
