Book Description

March 1, 2002
Strange things are afoot in the world. A mysterious top-hatted figure roams the streets of New Orleans and turns criminals to justice through fear and small, poisoned darts. Counterfeit money circulates across the globe, marked with strange symbols visible only under ultra-violet light. And to make matters worse, the ecosystem is eerily disrupted as sharks and alligators converge at odd locations. The stability of the world is shaken, but there is one man who is determined to find the cause of it all, Winston FitzRandolph. Follow Fitz through myth and intrigue as he throws himself into the fire. The Victorian: Act II, Self-Immolation combines the writing talent of Len Wein (X-Men, Swamp Thing) with artists Jim Baikie, Claude St. Aubin, and Andrew Pepoy along with Spectrum Fantastic Art award-winning cover artists Michael Kaluta (Spectrum 7 Silver Award-The Victorian issue #8), and Rick Berry (Spectrum 9 Silver Award-The Victorian issue #11). Bonus behind-the-scenes material and a unique embossed, 3-D painted cover by Eirich Olson make this graphic novel a collector's treasure. Collects The Victorian single issues 8-13.

5.0 out of 5 stars Hooked on a Victorian, October 18, 2008
This review is from: The Victorian: Act II, Self-Immolation (Paperback)
This is the second part of the five part groups of graphic novels first published as seperate comics by Penny farthing. As an acknowledged comic/graphic novel geek I have found this collection of works to be really different.True you have your usual villian and hero but it is the way the book is worked that makes it different. In this particular collection the real reason for the jackass fake note is made clear .The question is asked what is money ?The answer it is a belief that this little piece of paper will allow the holder to aquire certain goods.it in and of itself is nothing more than a piece of paper worthless unless believed in.As Philosophy student this hit a cord in that why is money so important? The book further follows the work of Lazslo and his finding if the philospher Niezsche allone in the Basement of the Blue rose college. Why is he there ,when he is believed dead?
This is a brilliant graphic novel ,although hard to colelct all 5 books now it is worth the hunt
