Editorial Reviews

From Library Journal

This engaging seasonal collection of novellas set during the Victorian era in England and America opens with Palmer's "Under His Wings," a retelling of the story of Ruth. In Debra White Smith's "Christmas Past," two young people struggle to put disappointments of childhood behind them and find a love for the future. Jeri Odell's "A Christmas Hope" teaches a vain young woman that earthly riches pale next to love, and Peggy Stoks's "The Beauty of the Season" offers an obvious lesson that beauty is in the eye of the beholder. Entertaining, but not a necessary purchase.

1.0 out of 5 stars Buyer Beware, November 4, 2006
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: A Victorian Christmas Cottage: Under His Wings/Christmas Past/A Christmas Hope (Fairchild Sisters #1)/The Beauty of the Season (HeartQuest Christmas Anthology) (Paperback)
After reading reviews from other buyers, I decided to buy this book. I love everything Christmas, I love romances, and I love Victoriana, so this series sounded like it was made for me. Since these books are advertised at Christian literature, I figured I could read them without having to slog through yet another poorly written and inappropriate sex scene to get on with the plot.
Unfortunately, in this series, you have to slog through one poorly conceived and even more poorly written religious diatribe after another to get through the "plot" (and I use the term "plot" loosely). The writing is amateurish, the plots repetitive, and the characters two dimensional. In short, there is just none of that "magic" that makes us want to read a book over and over again. It was such a disappointment to me! I was really looking forward to having a whole new series to read. Please don't waste your time or your money on this book. And if anyone does know some good Christian Christmas romances, please feel free to make a list! I get a lot of my books and movies from these lists. Thanks.

4.0 out of 5 stars A Wonderful Christmas Tradition, November 2, 2000
This review is from: A Victorian Christmas Cottage: Under His Wings/Christmas Past/A Christmas Hope (Fairchild Sisters #1)/The Beauty of the Season (HeartQuest Christmas Anthology) (Paperback)
I so enjoyed A Victorian Christmas Tea that I had to read this one too. The stories are so fun and uplifting. This is a cozy, curl up by the fire and read kind of book. Easy and enjoyable reading. It isn't overly romantic/sensual, for those of us that are more conservative.

I started with the Victorian Christmas Quilt. Now, I have read all of the Christmas anthologies that Heartquest sells! They are very heartwarming, and no smut or inappropriate language is included. Just nice, sweet romance stories. I would highly recommend anything by this company, but especially the anthologies!
