5.0 out of 5 stars This book is so great it gives me goosebumps
I bought this book about a year ago and I still refer back to it often. The photos are so gorgeous, they give me goosebumps. They transport me into a place I'd like to live, a fantasy of design and genteel composure. The text is informative and the quality of photos is top notch. I highly recommend this book to folks who like Victorian design, both contemporary and...

3.0 out of 5 stars Nice book!
Nice book! Fairly basic though as most of the pictures and information I have come across in other magazines and books. Even though the front cover was the best picture for me there are still some lovely pics in the book if you are looking for renovation / restoring ideas like I am.

I could not have decorated my recently renovated 100 year old Victorian home without this book. Friends and family think I have great potential as a decorator, little do they know.

I found this book at a local library, I have went threw several books to get ideas on styles and of the victorian era. I found this one to be one of the best. It has wonderful, all color photographs, has a dictionary of old words and is wonderful for discribing details. I am going to purchase it for my own collection.

5.0 out of 5 stars My Favorite Book!, August 16, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
I love this book! I have a Victorian home and I wasn't completely sure on how to decorate it with that Victorian touch. This book has been very useful. It has fantastic photography, along with wonderful discriptions of the photos, quoting decorators from the past, and the book breaks down how to get the Victorian look for any type of home or apartment. It is my go to book. I am constantly picking this one up...I just love it!
It is my favorite book.

1.0 out of 5 stars not impressed, December 16, 2010
Bought this book for a friend who is a serious collector of antiques and restores victorian homes. Could not look at it before buying but thought the cover said enough along with reviews from who knows who and or if they truly didn't work for or write the book or knew the author as upon opening it from first page to the last, found it full of said-it-before not-new comments and out dated pictures from the 1980's. There were very few pictures of true victorian interiors, and a lot of rooms were not even from homes from the 1800's, about half of the pics were badly put together reproduction furniture and half new furniture, mixed with 20th century furniture. So, upon my disappointment, I gave the book to my friend as maybe, just maybe I was being over-critical. When the gift was opened, he began to scan through it, and instead of saying "great book," asked me if I could return it. UGH. enough said. Wasted money.
