More About the Author

Every couple has a story about how they met, and like snowflakes, no two stories are ever the same. I am endlessly fascinated by the magic of that moment of connection between two people as their paths cross for the first time.

An incurable romantic, I enjoy writing love stories with satisfying endings.

Please stay tuned for my next novel.

I found myself getting drawn into the story, and I just couldn't stop reading! The characters are entirely believable and real, and I couldn't wait to find out what happens with them! Just when you think you know what the outcome will be in Victoria's love life, she takes you on an unexpected turn or twist, leaving you uncertain and guessing, a little longer. I don't want to spoil what happens in the book, but I was very happy with the ending. Looking forward to a sequel!

This was so much more than a romance novel! The main characters were incredibly vivid, and the author conveyed their depth and complexity to a degree that more than captured my heart and soul. The main male character is a captivating man (to say the very least) -- very British, an aristocratic type but very down-to-earth, compassionate, passionate, articulate, comfortable in his skin, yet with a slight flaw or two. The main female character and many sub-characters are so vividly painted and interesting, I want them in my life (but only if I can first have that Englishman!).

Set in Boston in the mid 1980's, the culture & music of the time comes through loud and clear, as well as the color and activity of Boston, itself (especially the Back Bay area). There are aspects of various kinds of music (mostly from the '80's), and also of vintage clothing (which I found to be really fun). I'm eagerly hoping for a sequel -- or other novels -- from this author. Note to author: I will never tire of the Englishman, or characters like him.

Perfectly edited. This author has a knack for clarity in her writing, and for keeping it interesting and exciting, yet real. The conversations were very natural, and it was always clear who was speaking. The flow was perfect! Few authors can paint characters like those in this story!

Fate throws Edmund and Victoria together...but will fear and misunderstanding drive them apart? 1980's Boston was alive with music and fashion. Victoria is a free spirited musician working her way through the Boston rock scene, trying to find a niche for herself in music and love. She has created a loving family of friends, but has so far been unlucky in finding the partner she dreams of. Edmund is enjoying life as a respected member of Boston's upper crust, but he has secrets of his own that are keeping him from being truly happy.

What happens when these two worlds collide? From notorious Boston rock clubs to tony Back Bay townhomes, we get the pleasure of watching the rise and fall and...?? of Victoria and Edmund's relationship.

I had so much fun reading this book. I spent my 20's in Boston's 1980's rock scene, and the author has really nailed the atmosphere of the time. If you love Boston, 80's music, or romance, you will enjoy this bon bon of a book. Ms. Byszewski has given us two true-blue characters to root for as they search for love and contentment.

Like the orange scones that Edmund favors, this book is sweet and satisfying.

Good read. Victoria is a vulnerable and romantic young woman who has chosen a difficult career. She is struggling to balance her emotional love life with her love for music. She finds herself in situations where she has to make difficult choices and they consequently cost her immense pain and frustrations. LA

The author engages us with a love story and an accurate view of Boston in the 80's. The story takes place mostly in Back Bay and Beacon Hill with detailed descriptions of the landscape, buildings, clothing, shops and even food. Victoria is a musician so we are also taken to the hot spots and reminded of the music of the time. I found myself transported into the era and into the hopes and frustrations of being a young woman looking for and finding love and a lasting relationship.

It was a pleasure to encounter Victoria and Edmund, and then follow them on the twists and turns of their emotional journey. The landmarks of Boston provide an ideal backdrop for Victoria's musical career, her gourmet tastes, her excciting night life, and her carefully described and impressive vintage wardrobe. Images will remain with you long after finishing this old-fashioned love story... perhaps one day you'll notice someone beautiful, sporting a raspberry lamb coat, strolling the Boston Common!

Heather Carr Byszewski's Victoria's Wish is, as the author, herself, describes it, "a good old-fashioned love story" and a tender one, at that. It's the story of Victoria Cody, 27, an attractive "American girl" who works in a vintage clothing store on trendy Newbury Street in Boston's Back Bay by day and plays with her band in the clubs at night, and Edmund Middleton, 43, a handsome and dashing English aristocrat and architect who works for a top firm in Boston and lives in his townhouse near the store. Chance (or is it Fate?) brings them together.

Though they live in very different worlds, both Victoria and Edmund, in their own ways, are strong, self-confident characters and Carr Byszewski does a good job of fleshing them out. While not a "summer-winter" relationship, the age difference between the two is just enough to give rise to their insecurities and uncertainty about whether each finds the other a suitable partner. The love between them is unmistakable but they are both rational people who by their own admission have a tendency to over-think things, so it isn't surprising when "over-thinking" leads to a tragic misunderstanding that both despair of ever being able to overcome.

Carr Byszewski has a keen eye and ear for detail and does a good job of capturing the late `80s music scene in Boston, which she knows well, having been immersed in it herself, just as she does describing the over-the-top and often whacky vintage ensembles Victoria's boss at the store is fond of wearing. While set in the late `80s, the story has a distinctly Edwardian and at times Victorian feel to it. Anyone who enjoys romance will find Victoria's Wish an engaging read.
