Product Description

RH Forschner by Victorinox is the knife of choice for professionals and consistently receives high accolades in product testing. This best-in-class commercial grade cutlery is now available for home use. RH Forschner by Victorinox knives feature high carbon, stainless steel blades, hand finished at Victorinox in Switzerland by skilled craftsmen. A special tempering process is used to produce an edge that can be resharpened over and over again, so the knife can keep its original sharpness throughout the entire life of the blade. Victorinox handles are ergonomically designed to minimize wrist tension. They provide a natural fit. A good heft and comfortable, positive grip are indications of a well-made knife. A sure-grip handle with a finger guard is valuable feature since the handle inevitably gets greasy, wet, or both. Although cutlery steel is naturally sanitary, materials and construction details of the handle minimize crevices what would offer hospitality to bacteria.

This is one beautiful set of knives. Too bad that they are so expensive. The wood block that the knives come set in is beautiful. The knives are simply awesome. If you are looking for a lovely set of knives look no further. My research has also showed that this brand (Victronix) are among the top rated knives. Buy these and just don't look back because you will be getting some of the premier knife sets available.

After doing a lot of research into knives, I found that many sites recommend the Victorinox Forschner knives. Taking that recommendation, I suggested that this rosewood set would make a nice Christmas gift. It turns out I was wrong. When opening the box, my first thought was, "someone is selling knock-off knives branded as Victorinox". One of the steak knives was in where the paring knife should go so I swapped them and noticed that because the slot for the small paring knife is so large, the knife tilts down out of line with all the other knives. I can see why maybe someone swapped the knives in the first place because the steak knife slots are too small and you can feel the serrations cutting into the wood just trying to insert them. Then once you do get the steak knives into their slots, they still stick out leaving about 1cm of the blade exposed. The angle of the wood handle is not in line with the angle of the block so on top of these other issues they make this set look like I got it for $20 at a garage sale. The 10" slicer had a gouge on it and the handle of the steel is a different shade from the rest of the knives.

I haven't bothered using them since they look so bad so I can't comment on the quality of the steel. I'm setting up a return ASAP. I've posted a few user images for this product as well to illustrate these issues. Maybe quality control just missed this one but if you're looking at these knives you might want to think twice. Maybe the ones with the Fibrox handles won't have all these problems.

We are happy with this purchase. The knives are very light and very sharp. We are replacing a cheap set so this is a treat.

Vine Customer Review of Free Product ( What's this? )
There is a wide quality spectrum when it comes to kitchen knives and this Victorinox set qualifies easily somewhere at the top of the middle range. From the makers of the original Swiss Army Knife, the set is the product of deep international cooperation with the blades made in Switzerland, the sharpening steel in England and the wood block made in our own USA.

The 9 knives are:

- 4 3/4" Steak knives (four)
- 3 1/4" Parer
- 6" Boning
- 8" Bread
- 10" Slicer

There's also a sharpening steel and everything goes into a nice hardwood block.

The Swiss steel brings quality and durability to the set and the rosewood handles add a note of personality and traditional distinction.

The set is functional and looks beautiful and it should stay that way for as long as the knives are always hand-washed and never see the inside of a dish washer.

NOTE (Nov 1, 2014):

7 months later, the set is still as good as new. No complaints whatsoever.

Vine Customer Review of Free Product ( What's this? )
This is a very high quality knife block that looks great in the kitchen. The blades are razor sharp and I've been using these knives pretty regular for about a month now and haven't even touched up any of the blades yet. The handles are substantial and let you feel like you have good control. The 6'' boning knife, however, has a little smaller of a handle and I'm not too keen on using it that often because of this.
There are 4 steak knives included as well, so this is a great set for someone just starting out or doing an upgrade for the kitchen.

My first reaction when opening the box was, "Wow!" The solid oak wood block is a lot nicer and a richer color than the Amazon picture suggests. Each knife has a beautiful rosewood handle. The whole unit looks great on my granite counter top.

Overall, the knives are pretty lightweight. This may be off-putting to some, but my preference is for a knife on the lighter side. They cut perfectly, and the included sharpening steel should keep these in top condition. Just note these can't go in the dishwasher.

The knives are very sharp and easily cuts very, very well. I have a set of Wusthoffs and these are comparable to them. They also look very nice in the kitchen. Because of the price, you obviously can tell this is not the most expensive Forged steel knives. They are stamped but they do the job. Works for me.

These knives are SHARP...and I know this because I sliced my finger thru the plastic it is wrapped in, when I was taking it out of the box. The rosewood is beautiful and the metal of the knives appears to be good quality. They are lighter than my Henckel knives, but I like that when I am having to do a lot of prep, keeps my hand from getting tired. My husband is a chef and I had bought him this brand of knives about a year ago for work and he says they stay sharp for a long time and sharpen easily. Can't ask for much more than that in a set of knives! The wood block is very beautiful also.
