Customer Reviews

They are great for protecting the blades on your nice knives.

Now, obviously you should completely dry your knives before you put them away anyways, but take extra care if you're using these guards.

The magnets clamp down tightly on the blade, preventing it from slipping out even with rough handling.

The Edge-Mag blade protectors are perfectly designed, protecting your knife edge and knife roll from damage. The magnets clamp down tightly on the blade, preventing it from slipping out even with rough handling. The cover can be fully opened up to clean and dry it, preventing it from harboring bacteria, grease, or water. The covers are also adaptable to a wide variety of blade, bolster, and handle shapes, and can be cut down to size with a pair of scissors. The taper at the rear ensures they fit Forschner knives. Finally, they are thin enough to not cause problems when fitting a lot of knifes into a roll.

All of these give the Edge-Mag covers a serious advantages over cheap slip-in plastic guards and BladeSafe style locking covers. If you are professional cook or chef, you owe it to your knives and knife bag to buy these covers, so both will last.

These feel quite substantial and I suspect they will last a long time. I cut several to size easily with kitchen shears. The magnets are fairly strong, but be warned: I came close to skewering my foot with a boning knife while cutting one of these to size because the knife's thin blade doesn't stick as well to the magnet as the heavier blades do.

I also own one of the Victorinox BladeSafe guards and the Edge-Mag, on first impression at least, is much nicer (less bulky, holds knife better).

It is true that a block, or one of those in-drawer knife organizers, or a magnetic strip would be better for organizing knives than the Edge-Mag. But I don't want to sacrifice the counter space, I don't have the drawer space, and I don't want my knives hanging from the wall. So these are perfect for me and probably for you too if you have a small kitchen.

I bought these and used them for a home knife and for a couple of knives I use at the restaurant where I work. The guards were great for the first couple of months but then, one day I went to retrieve a knife from the guard at home, and it stuck. I pulled the guard apart eventually and pieces of the black plastic lining of the guard ripped out and stuck to the side of my chef's knife blade. Hunks of plastic were literally stuck to the blade. I had to take a crappy knife that I didn't care about and scrape it off. It did work and there was no damage to the chef's knife but the guard was ruined. Then a few weeks later the same thing happened to a filet knife at work.

I've since come to realize that the culprit here is moisture. I think the knives still had a bit of water on them when I put them in the guard and that caused the plastic of the guards to rip out and stick to the side of the knives. Now, obviously you should completely dry your knives before you put them away anyways, but take extra care if you're using these guards.

Other than that one issue, I really liked these guards. Simple, easy, effective, lightweight, and secure. As well as affordable. Other than the (fairly major) issue with the plastic ripping out and adhering to the side of the blades these are great knife guards but I'm currently ordering a new set of non magnetic guards for my work knives.

Caused my Shun Edo knife set to rust after two days of use despite obsessive drying. It seems even the smallest amount of moisture becomes trapped between the magnet and the steel causing rust. Since switching to non-magnetic protectors I have not had this issue.

I bought these for two large cleavers and a large butcher knife that are stored in a drawer (because they don't fit in my knife block). They are easy to put on and take off and they cover the sharp edges safely and securely. I no longer fear cutting myself when I reach into that drawer. I love the fact that they can be cut to size. I was able to trim them with scissors very easily.

My spouse and I have been taking cooking classes and kitted ourselves out. Blade sheaths are a must have unless you have a heavy-duty leather knife bag, and even then you'll save yourself from cuts by having these.

The magnetic sheaths excel for two uses: odd shaped or taller bladed (like a clever) and knives stored in drawers. Being magnetic they fit more securely so blade thickness and size doesn't need to bet as closely matched and in a drawer the extra grip adds peace of mind.

We purchased a few different types of sheaths being first timers and are very happy we included some of these magnetic sheaths. The typical slip on sheaths work great but getting the correct size is a must. In our knife bags we use the slip ons regularly along side the magnetic, but bias to the magnetic for drawer stored knives.

We've had these now for a couple years and they show no signs of wear or decreased magnetic cling.

Knives can be kept super sharp, yet safely kept in a drawer. Trim to fit. Excellently made! This is the best solution!

Can be easily cut to fit any knife. Had to change the angle on the end to totally cover the blade on a filet knife. Cut with a pair if sissors
