5.0 out of 5 stars Great for those of us storing knives in a drawer
Like the title says, I do not use a block to store my knives, but do use these safes. I live fairly close to a restaurant supply and can pick these up (and did) for more than the cost here on Amazon. I do not hesitate reaching into the knife drawer and I no longer have to warn my guests about being careful. I also know my blades are being stored well after I hone them and...

I do not hesitate reaching into the knife drawer and I no longer have to warn my guests about being careful. I also know my blades are being stored well after I hone them and put them up for the night. I have them in all sizes even down to my paring knife. The closure is quite safe as well- 2 tabs (1 for the smaller size) that you really need to press on in order to open. Those of you with young children helping may breathe a bit easier as well when their little hand goes into the drawer.

5.0 out of 5 stars Just what I needed!, February 11, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
I positively love these knife covers! My personal preference is not to have a knife block on the counter-top. I simply don't like the way it looks, not to mention the fact that it takes up prime real estate on my kitchen counters. When I recevied my new Shun knives, I instantly knew that I needed a cover for protection for their blades, and I also instantly came to Amazon.

This blade cover fits my 7 inch Santoku knife perfectly. I ordered the larger size knife cover (8"-10") for my 8 inch chef's knife - If you have an 8 inch knife, I would definitely buy the larger size - my Shun chef's knife wouldn't have fit in the 6"-8" BladeSafe. Both knife covers fit the knives perfectly and I feel completely at ease putting my prized knives in the kitchen drawer. The BladeSafes take a little bit of practice getting them open. It takes a bit of focus, but it's not hard to open, just safely closed. If you have small children, they likely won't be able to open these.

Bottom line - If you store your knives in a drawer or need to chop that knife block off the counter-top, get these BladeSafes for your knives. They will not only protect your blades, but will protect your hands when you go digging in the knife drawer!

5.0 out of 5 stars BEST KNIFE BLADE SAVER; SAFE AND SUPER SECURE, October 14, 2008

I purchased this blade saver for my new R.H. Forschner by Victorinox 8-Inch Chef's Knife. In a nutshell, this saver fits my knife like a glove and is extremely secure.

PROS:
1. Clamshell-design allows you to open up the saver and gently place the knife in the unit. (Unlike other designs where you slide in the blade towards your palm :-/ ).
2. Small rubber 'bumpers' (for lack of a better word) press the blade from either side to safely secure the blade in the saver. This prevents the blade from moving or rubbing up against anything.
3. Secure locking mechanism. Two plastic latches securely lock the blade when you close the saver.
4. Blade is covered at the base of the blade by the saver (opposite end of the blade tip). This essentially prevents a child or whomever from picking up the knife and pulling on the handle to remove the blade without opening.

CONS:
1. Total price, otd, $9.00. Shipping was more than the saver itself.

All in all, the best blade saver you can buy.

5.0 out of 5 stars Rock solid blade guard, December 1, 2009

I really was impressed with how sturdy these blade guards were. I have the 8" Forschner Chef's knife, and it this of course fits it perfectly.

There are soft pads inside the guard that pinch the knife securely and keeps the blade from rattling around. At first, this does create a residue on the blade, but after a few weeks the residue no long appears.

I also have used it on my Mac Pro MTH-80 chefs knife - Due to the thinner Japanese style blade, the pads don't pinch so blade guard doesn't hold the knife completely secure, but the blade is still completely protected and safe. Just keep this in mind if purchasing for a Japanese stamped blade. If you have a standard Henckels, Wustoff or Forschner western style blade - you can't go wrong with these.

5.0 out of 5 stars Easy to use protection for good knives, August 4, 2009
This review is from: Victorinox Cutlery BladeSafe for 8-to-10-Inch Knife Blades (Kitchen)
I bought a Victorinox chefs knife and decided it made sense to protect the blade in my knife drawer. This BladeSafe is a perfect fit and easily snaps on and off. I highly recommend it.

I purchased this item with an 8" Victorinox Chef's knife. The knife fits in the protective sleeve just fine and is very secure. This product has two black 'rubber' items to hold the knife securely in place. Unfortunately when you take the knife out of this product there are black marks on your knife. Therefore you have to actually clean the knife before you use it in order to get these marks off. And they do not easily wipe off...you have to scrub with a reasonable amount of force to get the knife clean. I would not purchase this item again and will probably not use it for home use.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Value Knife, March 30, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
I recently took a knife skills class at the Chopping Block in Chicago. We experimented w/various knives, all costing well over $100. I never knew a good knife cook make such a dramatic difference. I had my heart set on a $150 knife, but being a home cook I had trouble justifying spending so much. I did research and found that the Victorinox was viewed as an excellent value, so for $25 or so I decided to give it a try. I was extremely impressed! And it was a no-brainer to get the BladeSafe to protect my investment. It's easy to use, inexpensive and protects beautifully.

1.0 out of 5 stars Not practical, buy something else, February 25, 2010
This review is from: Victorinox Cutlery BladeSafe for 8-to-10-Inch Knife Blades (Kitchen)
I bought the product last month, after two weeks of use one of the rubber pads sheared and now the knife is no longer held in place. It would be an, at least, four star review however if the company, Victorinox, would have included extra rubber grommets, offered to ship me out a couple extra, or even sold the rubber grommets separately, which they would not do without replacing the product.

4.0 out of 5 stars Very safe and usable, October 6, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
Fits all my 8" knives perfectly. Looks a little to large for my 6.5" Santoku Pure Komachi but it still fits and is quite secure when locked properly. One gripe that has come up already is the greasy marks that the rubber "holders" leave on the blade. This may fade over time (we'll see) with washing of those parts part it is a little disconcerting having something marking your precious knives. Overall, I have kept this product.

5.0 out of 5 stars This protects me from cutting my fingers off, April 1, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
If you have the Victorinox Fibrox 8-Inch Chef's Knife like I do, and you don't have an adequate place to put it (I don't have one of those cool magnetic strips on the wall, seeing as this is my only knife), you need to get this. I don't have a knife block or anything, so my only option is to keep my knife in a drawer in my kitchen and risk cutting my fingers off at any given moment. (The kitchen is a dangerous place)

After I got this, I resumed reaching recklessly into kitchen drawers, and my life has never been better. The build quality is solid, and fits my knife perfectly. Highly recommended for anyone who wants to keep their knife safe. It's relatively cheap too, which another plus.
