I love this knife. It is a great all around knive. It has enough gadgets to get me through most situations. Granted you are not tunnelling out of prison or surviving on Lost with this knife alone but it would be an excellent compliment to any tools you would have. I back up the Swiss Army knife with a Gerber Multitool for real heft with lifting or wrenching needs. This is my third knife. The first fell into a fire and the plastic handles metled but the knife still works; that's now my car knife. The second is my work knife and this one is my camping knife. I enjoy it immensely.

I have owned a victorinox "Mechanic" for nearly 30years, I have worn two completely out with daily use.
It has a large and small blade. Philips head and straight blade screw drivers. A pair of 4" pliers that are handy not only for dissasembly of computers but also for untying stubborn knots, and picking a hot pot off a campfire. I utilize the can opener and bottle opener frequently. It fits comfortably in my hand and is not to heavy. the steel is good quality.

First, let me explain. This is a vastly different tool than any leatherman, and this is not a comparison in anyway. As far as I am concerned there is no better pocket tool on the planet than a leatherman wave, and all leatherman pliers are better than what you get here. However, for what it is, and what it contains, It is durable and very light weight. I have carried a multi tool everyday for years, and I was looking for something a little lighter when I am wearing dress pants, so this fit the bill.

I love this knife, I use the little blade for utility items such as opening boxes, and save the larger blade for jobs that need a larger/sharper blade. The pliers are very small, but surprisingly sturdy and everything else works fine (the phillips head really should open straight out instead of in the middle of the handle, but I have yet to be in a situation that I couldn't use it for).

So, my amazing leatherman is saved for days when I really need a heavier tool, or on weekends wearing jeans. For church and work days in the office, I take the mechanic. As an aside, I also keep the classic with light and pen on my keys. Now I have just about everything covered in under 5 grams of weight.

Christmas gift for son going off to college. Made a great stocking stuffer and he immediately opened it and assisted in opening all of the gifts that morning. It can get through all wrapping and any plastic packaging! It's a winner!

Skip the Victorinox marketing about which knife goes with which activity. This is the most useful and practical version of the SAK on the market. I am not a fan of the scissors (you have a knife already!), which are too small to do anything effectively. These pliers are a much better tool. Sturdy, capable and useful. Lets face it, everything you add increases the footprint, until its so heavy you wont carry it with you. The footprint on this knife wont keep you from carrying it in your pocket, and it also rides well in a smaller belt pouch. For form, footprint, and practicality this knife is the best mix of tools at the best weight ratio.

I bought my husband one of these about 15 years ago and he used it every day at work and at home. After dropping it many times on the concrete shop floor, it had sustained some damage to the case. This particular model has been very difficult to locate, in spite of checking at many stores in our state and in other states, so I was ecstatic to find it on this site and ordered it immediately! Everyone - male or female - would find this to be so useful it would become one of their necessities!

I have been collecting swiss army knives now for about a year and this model was on my to get list. It is well built and the pliers work very well. They are sadly just a little to small for a majority of task. I would imagine they would work very well as Catfish skinners and a multitude of uses around a camping setting. As for a EDC knife I think one would be better served with a Tinker Small model which in my opinion is the best model currently made. And my most carried / prized model.

This has the best mix of things a handy person needs to use. It's not a leatherman, but it is more innocuous and portable. They've done away with the corkscrew. The stops are very positive, and the pliers are thick and reasonably strong.

Overally, it's just the right mix of size, utlity, and functionality. It's also rather innocent and not considered a weapon in the workplace, as it's simply a "boy scout swiss army knife".
