Product Description

Victorinox Swiss Army – History

Master Cutler Karl Elsener opened a cutlery shop in Ibach, Switzerland in 1884. Seven years later, in 1891, Karl supplied the Swiss Army with its standard issue Soldier’s Knife. After the death of his mother in 1909, Karl Elsener introduced the brand name Victoria and the iconic Cross and Shield emblem is registered as a trademark. With the advent of stainless steel, Karl Elsener coined the company’s name, Victorinox, by combining his mother’s name with “inox”, an abbreviation of the French word for rust-resistant steel, “inoxydable”. After World War II, the “Original Swiss Army Knife” began its successful progression around the world and enjoyed exceptional popularity. In 1989, Victorinox entered the timepiece business in the United States under the brand name “Swiss Army”. Ten years later, Victorinox joined the Travel Gear market, partnering with TRG Group in St. Louis. And in 2001, Victorinox fashion was introduced in the US to further capture the brand’s essence of practical luxury. In 2002, in order to promote global unity, the Victorinox Swiss Army timepiece brand was launched internationally. In 2007, Victorinox set up Victorinox Swiss Army Fragrance AG, and in 2009 Victorinox Swiss Unlimited was launched. 2014 marks Victorinox Swiss Army’s 130th anniversary, and each Victorinox Swiss Army product embodies the spirit of the Legendary Original Swiss Army Knife, a universal symbol of Functionality, Innovation, Quality and Iconic Design.

The watch is brand new and it looks like Rolex and better than Tag Heuer.

I recently purchased the Victorinox Swiss Army Men's 241432 Maverick GS Black Dial Watch for a great price of about 58% of retail price. I took it to a local jeweler and had them size the band to fit ($15). The watch looks a lot more expensive and compares in looks to other more expensive watches i.e. Rolex & Tag Heuer. I am very pleased with my purchase.

First, I must admit to specifying this watch on my Wish List and getting it as a Christmas gift from my lovely wife. I had been a big fan of ESQs but one recently let me down so i thought about going upscale (over $1K). This watch is stunning in person and an incredible value!

Let's start with design. It has the more modern large face diameter but not crazy big like some other brands, good thickness but not too big to wear under dress shirt sleeves, and a wide metal band with 3-across link design that gives it an overall pleasing bold look. I have average size arms and hands and was worried that these larger watches would look odd on me, but quite the opposite is true and it looks great on the arm. Yes, it is extremely close in appearance to the Rolex, and with well executed stainless finishes and graphics many will think it is a Rolex. This is a daily watch for me to be worn with dress shirts/suits, as well as casual. The weight of the watch also feels substantial and nice.

Function: It has the classic 3-dial chronograph with stopwatch functions. The knurled ring dial around the watch is easy to turn and rewards you with solid firm mechanical clicks, useful for things like tracking time while grilling. For international travelers, you can adjust the time by hour-hand only which is a time saver for big time zone shifts. It also helps with date changes to the proper am or pm setting. The sapphire crystal is supposed to give added durability and there's no reason to doubt this. Other nice touches like glow-in-the-dark hands help give it nice function.

All in all, as a guy in his mid-40s I love the complete bold/rugged look and quality feel of this watch, ...and what an outstanding value. It has exceeded my expectations in all areas and I am enjoying wearing it!

This is my 5th Victorinox watch from Amazon, and I have been most pleased with all of them. This is a rugged, well-made watch that exemplifies a good chronograph. Very easy to read, even in poor lighting conditions, luminous hands, and extremely accurate. The rotating bezel is solid, and well-defined. It also has a luminous dot at the 12 o'clock position, making it quick to gauge the time in total darkness. I highly recommend it.

Very nice watch. Overall quality is superb. Good weight and nice clasp. The band has the wetsuit extension at the clasp (not that I would recommend going diving with this.) Black face on this model really shows up with silver dial bands. 43mm size is perfect size. I've gotten many comments about the appearance of this watch. Very happy with this purchase. Awesome!

Disappointed. Movement subpar with odd glitches after 6months of use. If it weren't to late I'd absolutely return.

This watch is extraordinary well made. Attention to details and material quality is above average for a watch in this price range.

Regarding design, it combines in one piece a diver watch and a chrono in an elegant and easy to read layout.

What I really like the most is the look of a classic timepiece with a subtle modern twist, and does not try to mimic a Rolex or any other watch.

This watch is worth far more than the price you can purchase it here for. The average price range of this watch is $340-$608 US on Amazon. I own a number of Tag's, a few Tudor and Rolex time pieces that feel and look much like this one. The touches that Victorinox added such as the anti reflective sapphire crystal and solid stainless body as well as a high gloss finished fitted bezel make this a big time player in class, with style and durability all in mind. It uses a work horse Swiss Quarts movement like many Tags costing over $1500.00 US.

The 43mm size is impressive but not a overly large trendy size that will not stand test of fashion time statements. The lumin is excellent and would only be improved if numbers had been done as well. The chronograph hits all the second indicators spot on as it travels. I truly feel this watch will be over a $1000.00 list US in a few years. It sure is built that way.

I remember paying $600.00 for some of my early Tag's as they just began in the states to gain popularity that cost over $2500.00 US now. Victorinox Swiss Army time pieces in my opinion will be counted among some of the best and will be ranging in price from $1500.00 - $4500.00 moving forward within the next 4 years.

I find myself wearing this watch almost everyday now and so will you. I would not hesitate as this watch does not disappoint.

UPDATE Read This: I have had some chrono issues to date with this and have been told this is also a concern from others. The chrono will not operate at random times and it seems like the watch is loosing time now. I have had the battery replaced professionally at a well know and respected watch dealer with no luck as the issue still persists.
