Product Description

Victorinox Swiss Army – History

Master Cutler Karl Elsener opened a cutlery shop in Ibach, Switzerland in 1884. Seven years later, in 1891, Karl supplied the Swiss Army with its standard issue Soldier’s Knife. After the death of his mother in 1909, Karl Elsener introduced the brand name Victoria and the iconic Cross and Shield emblem is registered as a trademark. With the advent of stainless steel, Karl Elsener coined the company’s name, Victorinox, by combining his mother’s name with “inox”, an abbreviation of the French word for rust-resistant steel, “inoxydable”. After World War II, the “Original Swiss Army Knife” began its successful progression around the world and enjoyed exceptional popularity. In 1989, Victorinox entered the timepiece business in the United States under the brand name “Swiss Army”. Ten years later, Victorinox joined the Travel Gear market, partnering with TRG Group in St. Louis. And in 2001, Victorinox fashion was introduced in the US to further capture the brand’s essence of practical luxury. In 2002, in order to promote global unity, the Victorinox Swiss Army timepiece brand was launched internationally. In 2007, Victorinox set up Victorinox Swiss Army Fragrance AG, and in 2009 Victorinox Swiss Unlimited was launched. 2014 marks Victorinox Swiss Army’s 130th anniversary, and each Victorinox Swiss Army product embodies the spirit of the Legendary Original Swiss Army Knife, a universal symbol of Functionality, Innovation, Quality and Iconic Design.

I went crazy trying to find the cause and eventually discovered it is the watch strap.

The Victorinox Swiss Army Alliance #241474 is a great looking Swiss-made quartz watch. It is very nicely sized at 40mm--not too big or too small. The bezel is either chrome plated or highly polished to a flawless finish. The face is satin black with applied bright metal numbers (3, 6, & 9) and hour markers along with the Victorinox logo at 12 o'clock. The balance of the markings are cleanly printed in silver. There are luminous hands along with hour marker dots on the bezel. The band is a quality feeling matte-finish black leather with subtle dark grey stitching. To my eye, this design is close to perfect. It's dignified enough to dress up smartly, but not too fussy to be worn in more casual situations. Highly recommended.

This watch looks great and is very comfortable. I wear it to work and casually on the weekend. The stainless steel gives the watch shine, and the black gives it subtle elegance.

I love the watch. It's beautiful and works well with both formal and casual clothes. The leather is soft.

However, the luminousity of the second measures is 99% non-existent. And the second hand does not _quite_ align with the second marks, but it's only noticeable if you really look for it.

I would buy this brand again.

The Victorinox Swiss Army Alliance fits nicely into my mighty (:-)) watch collection: A Bulova Precisionist Claremont, a vintage Longines gold dress watch and a Timex DataLink 150 (vintage too, I guess. And certified by NASA for space travel).

Many things to like about this watch:

    Size is just right
It looks smashing; classic look that goes well with both jeans and a suit
    The strap is very nice
It has got a sapphire crystal

Yes, it comes with a Swiss quartz movement, not automatic or manual. And it is not an IWC - but it shares some of that brand's simple and classic lines, and at around 300 USD it is practically free in comparison.

The only thing I do not like about it is the quality of the luminous display. Do not expect to keep track of time when in bed at night.

This is a very nice quartz movement watch for the price. Keep a close eye on this watch on Azon because the price fluctuates daily. Nice leather band. Easy to set date. Nice face. My wrist is 7 inches so 40mm face is as big as you can go with this watch. Very nice indeed.

Excellent time piece for the money! I wanted a classic, simple looking watch without spending too much money and this watch is perfect! The face isn't too big and the stitching on the leather is top notch. It's comfortable and keeps excellent time so far. I'd recomend this for somebody who wants a quality time piece but doesn't want anything too flashy.

This is a great watch but I started getting random black marks on my pants and shirt. I went crazy trying to find the cause and eventually discovered it is the watch strap. I guess this would be expected being brand new but its been several weeks and it is still leaving marks! I just want to warn people that may be buying this for a nice event, you may show up with dirty looking cloths from this watch.
