4.0 out of 5 stars Very Nice, Quite Pleased. (But too thick.), October 29, 2011

This review is from: Victorinox Swiss Army Men's 241262 Dive Master Black Dial Watch (Watch)
For many things, the picture looks better than the thing. For this watch, the watch itself looks far better than the picture. A few quick points.
1) It's big. If you have less-than-average size hands, it'll look too big.
2) It's thick. If you want a thin watch, look elsewhere. (I do wish it were thinner.)
3) It's heavy. 4.7ozs with 2 links removed. I would not want this watch in steel.
4) It's frickin' titanium, people. Solid, end-to-end.

PVD blows. I had a steel/PVD-coated Heuer. After a few years, it scratched-off and looked CRAPPY! This watch has a nice, "Fine-brushed" finish. (It looks much better if you have the patience/resources to polish-out the brushed finish; a Dremel will do.) When PVD chips-out, you have no such options, and your watch will look like crap.

Titanium alloy is harder than stainless steel, so it will scratch less. PVD usually involves a form of titanium, so it isn't more-or-less hard, but again, when it eventually scratches/chips-out -- and it will -- you can't "fix" PVD. The color of titanium (a sort of light yellow/gray/brown) is quite lovely.

Finally, I don't need to calculate "time-to-mark" on my yacht, or airspeed/arrival time of my private plane too often, so I don't need an 18-function wrist-based chronometer. I am a diver, but I don't even need a dive watch for that. (Hello, application-specific computers for everything nowadays.) I do, however, frequently need to cram a quarter in a slot and remember when the meter maid is going to ticket me. A rotating bezel is perfect for that.

Very, very pleased with it.

Finally, some other reviewer suggests it "doesn't polish as well as stainless steel." I don't know quite what that means. It doesn't polish "as easily?" That's true. (It's a harder material, and therefore harder to machine and polish.) It can't be "as shiny?" That's false. It's not colorless? That's true.

5.0 out of 5 stars Victorinox Swiss Army Dive Master Titanium makes no compromises, July 13, 2011
This review is from: Victorinox Swiss Army Men's 241262 Dive Master Black Dial Watch (Watch)
I've had my Victorinox Swiss Army Dive Master Titanium for nearly two years and it still feels new every morning.
It is a superbly designed, machined and matt honed watch and the price is surprisingly affordable for what one gets with this watch.
The case is bulky but the Titaniuam material compensates for that.
The bracelet is robust.
The only very minor gripe I have with this watch is the quality of the diver's clasp: it does not close smoothly with a reassuring double snap.
So it is not quite up there with clasp quality of Breitling and Omega.
Other than that, I have no quibbles with this watch.
I also own a Breitling Aerospace Chronograph Titanium which has COSC certification, but to be honest, this keeps as good time anyway as any COSC watch.
So if you are looking for a robust yet reasonably lightweight activity/diver watch which oozes quality, look no further than the Victorinox Swiss Army Dive Master Titanium.

4.0 out of 5 stars I am glad to get the Titanium version, July 13, 2011

This review is from: Victorinox Swiss Army Men's 241262 Dive Master Black Dial Watch (Watch)
I received this watch yesterday. I did not expect it is so heavy. I used to have a Seiko Kinetic Titanium and this one is a lot more heavy. It takes me a while to get used to the weight. I am glad to get the titanium instead of steel version. I cannot imagine how heavy the steel one would weigh.
I am quite satisfied with the watch. It is very sturdy and well built. The glow in the dark markings works well.
Some minor complaints:
- the rotating bezel has some semi-sharp corner where the digit marking is. It will be nice if they could smooth it out.
- the date window with the magnify glass is kind of hard to see if you view it at an angle.
Overall it is a very good value watch.

5.0 out of 5 stars victorinox 241262, February 25, 2012

totally awesome! better than the pictures and better than the reviews would suggest.

it is big, but not ridiculously so. the titanium reduces weight that a gunmetal watch would otherwise have. the luminous markings, although they are not tritium, continue to emit light for upwards of 10 hours.

the watch is elegant, simple, understated and utilitariian.

the only drawback might be it's thickness. at 12- 14 mm (depending which stats you look at) it is chunky. but again, not ridiculously so.

i am delighted about this watch and hIghly recommend it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great value., January 31, 2012
This review is from: Victorinox Swiss Army Men's 241262 Dive Master Black Dial Watch (Watch)
I had my Victorinox for 12 months and can share a fair review.
Other than the clasp not having a "positive" lock, it is a great watch. Looks more expensive that it is, it is easy to see the time. I play golf with it, the weight does not bother me, it is titanium and 1/3 compared to a steel watch. The dull finish is awesome, I think it looks better now that when it was new.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Swiss Made Quartz Watch, March 20, 2010
By
This review is from: Victorinox Swiss Army Men's 241262 Dive Master Black Dial Watch (Watch)
OK, I admit it, I am hooked. This review is virtually identical to the ones I wrote for the blue and silver versions of this watch. This watch is identical to those except for dial color, so I thought it fair to share the review.

There is nothing not to like about this watch. From the moment you take it out of the box you will know it is a quality timepiece. All parts are machined to fine tolerances. Most of it is brush polished so it will not show scratches as much, but part of the bezel has just enough fine polish to accent it's beauty and design. The watch has a solid feel and the heft of stainless steel so you know it can take some real punishment. The sapphire crystal is thick, solid, and crystal clear. The magnifying cyclops is underneath the crystal so there is no bump to mar the smooth surface of the crystal. The unidirectional rotating bezel has 120 clicks and rotates firmly with a very satisfying resistance. This Swiss Army Divemaster is rated to 500 meters WR, which is 300 meters more than most dive watches. It is one of the few watches you can feel comfortable with for real diving. The watch does NOT have an exhibition back. Of course, being a true diver, it has a screw-down crown.

The bracelet is made of solid stainless steel links connected with friction pins. It has solid end links. It has a diver's extension. It also has the capacity for minor length adjustments by movement of a small pin in the clasp. The clasp is a dependable deployant model with locking clasp. The metal of the deployant mechanism is heavy and solid, not thin stamped metal like that used in cheaper watches. The hands and the hour markers are coated with a substance that is nicely illuminated in the dark after exposure to light. The lume is quite nice. Much better than many other watches I have tried, though not quite up to the standards of the Seiko Monster. Finally, this watch keeps great time. What more would you expect from a Swiss Made quartz movement? The watch is comfortable, reasonably priced, built like a tank, yet sized just right for an average person, and looks great. These are, by far, among the best quartz watches I have ever had the pleasure of owning. As of today, I am still infatuated with these watches, and they compete well for wrist time with many of my best Swiss automatics.

5.0 out of 5 stars About right, March 5, 2010

This review is from: Victorinox Swiss Army Men's 241262 Dive Master Black Dial Watch (Watch)
This is a world of very expensive watches and many places to have someone make you a sandwich while you watch. It's nice to know I can do my own dishes in this very utilitarian watch. I can shower in it thanks to the sealing time setter knob. The titanium makes it weight about right for a watch and it wears well. I am against watches that only work with 150 stitch suits. It's a lovable rugged watch with a serious 3 year warranty. I love Herc watches but the added reliability is worth the money if I can trust the waterproofing. I hope to get a long life out of it. My father is still getting life out of his 10 year old watch from Swiss Army.
